Task 6 film company research
1.
2. Who will produce my film?
I reviewed a few film companies that fit into the horror category/ who had
produced films within the horror genre. I viewed companies like Twisted
Pictures, Platinum Dunes, Ghost Pictures and others. But the company that I
felt fit my type of horror film was Rogue Pictures, which produced
horror/thrillers such as The Strangers and Last House on the Left which I felt
both had qualities similar to what I wanted to have in my trailer. I also found
that Blumhouse Productions were a good company to use for my film trailer as
they had produced to extremely popular horror/thrillers such as the
Paranormal Activity series and The Purge. Again, both of these films had the
thrilling qualities that I was looking for in my trailer.
3. Although Rogue Pictures does not specialise in producing solely horror films, I felt that just by having
produced these two horror films, the qualities they had were similar to what I wanted to have in my film
trailer and so I felt that it was necessary to use this company.
The Strangers is a 2008 American horror film written and
directed by Bryan Bertino The film revolves around a young
couple who are terrorized by three masked assailants, who
break into the remote summer home in which they are
staying and damage all means of escape. This plot has a
similar ‘thrilling’ quality within the idea of the having a
mysterious protagonist surrounding two individuals which is
a concept I wish to have in my trailer.
The Last House on the Left is a 2009 American film directed by
Dennis Iliadis and written by Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca. The
film follows the parents (Goldwyn and Potter) of Mari Collingwood
(Paxton), who attempt to get revenge on a group of strangers, led
by a man named Krug (Dillahunt), that have taken shelter at their
home during a thunderstorm. The Collingwoods discover that Krug
and his group have raped and shot their daughter and left her for
dead. The idea of having these two individuals isolated by a
sudden threat from a protagonist is something I wanted to use for
my film concept.

In 1997, Rogue Pictures was formed as a division of
PolyGram Pictures but the name was dropped in 2000 after
Universal Pictures bought PolyGram. In 2004, the name was
revived as part of Universal-owned Focus Features, with a
goal of "high-quality suspense, action, thriller and urban
features with mainstream appeal and franchise potential".
4. Paranormal Activity is a 2009 American supernatural
horror film written and directed by Oren PeliThe film
centers on a young couple, Katie and Micah, who are
haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. It is
presented in the style of "found footage", from cameras
set up by the couple in an attempt to document what is
haunting them.
Blumhouse produces micro and low-budget genre movies like the Paranormal Activity,
Insidious and Sinister franchises.
I also wanted to have a look at Anchor Bay Entertainment, which produced a film called In
Fear, which had an almost identical plot and concept to my horror trailer.
In Fear (2013) Tom and Lucy are both happy young adults eager
to set out on their first weekend getaway as a couple. They set off
for a planned stay at a remote hotel but quickly find themselves
getting lost in a maze of backwoods roads. However they soon
discover that they are at the mercies of an unknown tormentor that
is eager to take advantage of their vulnerability and distance from
civilization.
