Procedures
For the English lessons, students receive and send activities through a Whatsapp group. I will
send them the link for the videocall meeting through a private Whatsapp group the institution
shares with the students as well as with their parents. Moreover, the lesson plan will be
uploaded to a webpage called “Educabot” which the institution chose as a campus for their
students.
ROUTINE (5 minutes)
Purpose: To get students be ready to start the lesson.
I will greet students and ask them how they are today. While the teacher listens to students´
comments, she will ask each of them to take a seat. As the teacher listens to them, she will
prepare her computer to connect online with the other half of students.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Hello everybody!
Let´s start the lesson by talking about something you know a lot, that´s Youtube… Are you
ready?
WARM- UP (5 - 10 minutes)
To introduce the lesson, I will ask students to see this video: https://youtu.be/1xIcHSV0yVQ
and reflect on the following questions:
 What advantages does the girl mentioned regarding Youtube channel?
 What is the audience the girl referred to?
 In your life, how much time do you spend on Youtube? And watching TV? Why?
Scaffolding strategies: Visual support (video clip) to understand the situation presented to
reflect on the knowledge learned in previous lessons, reflective questions in order to foster
student´s critical thinking by thinking on TV programmes´ future.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! Now
as you can see Youtube is the boom on teenagers and adult’s world, but how TV programmes
can be replaced by Youtube networks…
PRESENT ATI O N (15 minutes)
Purpose: To introduce the topic of the lesson.
To introduce the lesson, I will ask students to work in pair or small groups to infer the
meaning of new words related to the vocabulary regarding technological networks. In this
exercise, students will have to reflect on the situation given and try to identify the meaning
of the words in bold. Then, I will ask them to reflect on the sentences given.
Match the words in bold with its meaning.
Scaffolding strategies: activate student´s prior knowledge through matching activity,
provide the context of the lesson by asking students to work with key concepts.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! Now
we are ready to learn about YouTube channel…
DEVELOP M ENT (PRACTI CE and PRODUCTI ON)
Activity # 1 (5 - 10 minutes)
I will introduce the activity to student by asking: In your daily live, are you more Youtube
consumers than TV consumers? Why? Do you know how are YouTube shows prepared?
You´ll learn with this video:
Read six opinions about YouTube. What do the words in bold mean?
1- I love YouTube because the creators of the videos are often normal people like us, the consumers.
2- The thing I hate about YouTube is the adverts, especially when you can´t skip them.
3- The audience from some YouTube videos may be bigger than for some TV programmes.
4- Most of the content on YouTube is terrible. The filming techniques are low quality.
5- I don´t go on YouTube that much and I´d never subscribe to a YouTube channel.
6- Making good quality YouTube videos requires a big investment of time and money.
A- advertisements / products publicity
B- someone who has invented something.
C- the group of people together in one place to watch or listen to a play, film,
someone speaking, etc.
D- a person who buys goods or services for their own use
E- the ideas that are contained in a piece of writing, a speech, or a film.
F- to pay money to an organization in order to receive a product, use a service regularly,
or support the organization.
G- ways of doing an activity that needs skill.
H- the act of putting money, effort, time, etc. into something to make a profit or get
an advantage, or the money, effort, time, etc. used to do this.
First, I will ask students to read this resume about what they´ll see in the
video:
Scaffolding strategies: Visual support (video clip) to understand the situation presented to
reflect on the knowledge learned in previous lessons, reflective questions in order to foster
student´s critical thinking and make a bridge between new and prior knowledge.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson with the next one: Great job!
Now it´s time to see the video clip!... Ready?
Activity # 2 (15 minutes)
Then, I will ask students to work in pairs / groups (in the case of online student, I will ask
him/her to work alone). In this activity, I will guide students and help them if it needed.
After watching the video, I will ask them to answer these exercises:
Exercise 1- Complete this file:
Value: $1.000.000.000
Founded: in _________
Creators: for some, YouTube is a full-time job
Making money: YouTube invites popular creators to put ______ on their videos.
Studio: creators with 50.000 _____________ can use the studio.
Biggest Studio: “Deep Focus”
Criticism of business model: _____________ think content should be free.
Then, I will ask them to answer these
questions:
What is the documentary about?
Who does the presenter speak to?
Exercise 2- Answer these questions about the video clip:
Scaffolding strategies: Make students work their listening skills through an audio, make
students complete reflexive questions to check video content´s comprehension.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson with the next one: Great work
everybody! Now, it´s time for a last activity in which you have to use all your creativity and
imagination in creating your own YouTube fantasy channel!
Activity # 3 (20 - 25 minutes)
I will encourage students to prepare their fantasy channel in groups / pairs (in the case of
students online through break-out rooms or on their own). This activity will be set as a free
activity, giving students full responsibility on their learning process and encourage them to
make use of all the knowledge they´ve acquired to develop this activity.
I will give students these sentences as guidelines to help them to prepare their project:
1- Who has ´some of the biggest audiences in Britain´?
2- What makes more money: Youtube video creators or TV programme makers?
3- What kind of techniques do creators learn in the YouTube studios?
4- What will ´a better quality of content´ bring for YouTube?
5- What does Andrew Keen say about the internet and ´the creative community´?
 Name of channel
 Type of video clips
 Target audience
 What´s special about the channel
 Who will star in the videos
 Competitors / rivals
 How frequently you will upload new videos
I will give students time to think on these ideas and prepare their proposal for YouTube
manager. As homework, I will ask them to prepare a presentation of their YouTube channel
to be presented to a YouTube manager and evaluate if their proposal can be founding as a
new YouTube channel.
I will give this proposal as an example:
Also, I will ask students to identify sentences openers to present your proposal in a formal
way of writing. I will have these sentences prepared to help students:
Scaffolding strategies: model and define the aim of the activity, give an example with each
of the sentences given in the chart.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson with the next one: Great work
everybody! Now, it´s time for a last activity in which you have to all your knowledge about
verb patters to choose the right structure presented in each of the songs presented.
 We are looking for…
 We intend to…
 The video can be presented
by…
 We will upload new videos..
 Our target audience is…
 We thank you for…
CLOSURE (5 - 10 minutes)
The aim of this final task is to encourage students not only to use all their knowledge in order
to comprehend what the task is about, but also to develop it by using what they´ve learned
about verb patters related to Future Tense to work. With this activity, I will encourage
students to play and recognize future tenses through the context of songs.
For this activity, I will share with them this link:
Future Tense in Songs - English ESL video lesson (islcollective.com)
Scaffolding strategies: Visual support (video clip) in order to help students to understand
and apply their prior and new knowledge in the task´s development, interactive work by
asking students to discuss and choose one option from the ones given.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Wow! You have
worked very hard today… great job! We come to the end of this lesson! See you next class!
