Des Moines, IA 50313
Dear Ms. Karwal:
We have created a donation brochure, a social media content calendar, a news release, a
fundraising letter, four 30-second radio public service announcements and a newsletter article.
Many of these items were created with the intent of informing the public about the Easter Seals
Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center and the four services that it provides. Some specific items are
calls to action for donations to the AssistiveTechnology Center.
Our social media content calendar, PSAs, newsletter article, and news release are informative
of what AssistiveTechnology is and how the Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center
can benefit users. These items also highlight success stories from users and suggest ways
people can donate to your organization. We believe that informing the public about assistive
technology and how it benefits people is the best way to create a strong foundation with your
audience.
Once that foundation is laid, the AssistiveTechnology Center can plan donation campaigns. Our
donation brochure, PSAs, and fundraising letter are direct calls to action for donations from the
public. These items inform your audience on how to donate, what items to donate, and how
their donations make a difference in the lives of those who use the AssistiveTechnology Center.
We have included print copies of the scripts was used for our PSAs as well as the digital radio
copies for your use.The fundraising letter has been created in a way that a specific person’s
information can be added to the John Doe area and distributed immediately.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Mantle PR

AssistiveTechnology Center Holding Used Equipment Drive
DES MOINES, IOWA, December 4, 2016 – The Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center
(ATC) will hold a donation drive on January 15, 2017.They will accept used durable medical
equipment such as wheelchairs, shower transfer benches and lift chairs.
The drive will take place at Camp Sunnyside, 401 NE 66th Ave, in Des Moines. Representatives
will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to noon. Donors are then welcome to tour the camp
and other Easter Seals facilities.
Sherri Nielsen, President and CEO of Easter Seals Iowa said, “Donating your used medical
equipment is a great way to help disabled Iowans. Each item directly assists a person in need.”
Donations are catalogued and then made available for a very small fee. Anyone with a long-
term disability or short-term disability due to injury is eligible to apply for the equipment loan.
Previous drives have brought in hundreds of donations, and Easter Seals Iowa is hoping for a
similar result this time.
“More donations means more people can benefit from our services,” said Kim Karwal, a repre-
sentative for the ATC. “If you have anything lying around collecting dust, please consider do-
nating it.”
The ATC holds several equipment drives annually, but it accepts equipment donations year-
round. In the Des Moines, items can be dropped off at Camp Sunnyside, Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.You can also schedule a pick-up by calling 515-309-2394 or 515-289-
4069 (TTY).

Small Business Owner Spreads the Benefits of Easter Seals Iowa
March 14, 2017
Kevin Dalin is a small business
owner ofTech4Impact located in
Johnston, Iowa. Dalin provides
assistive technology services
to individuals who experience
disabilities and require assistive
technology to go about daily
living activities.The Easter Seals
Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center
is home to the Lending Library,
which he relies on to supply his
customers with technology and
devices.
Dalin checks out equipment from
the Lending Library himself and
then delivers it to an individual he
is supporting. He demonstrates the device to the individual and then leaves it behind for that
individual to use if he thinks they can benefit from it.
As a small business owner who recommends assistive technology to his customers, Dalin
finds the lending Library extremely helpful.
“I might think I have a recommendation for an individual about assistive technology, but
until they get it in their hands I can’t be certain it’s going to work for them,” Dalin said. “It is
so helpful to have a person touch, hold and try a device before they buy it. A person won’t
want to purchase an item if they aren’t sure it will work for them, and the Lending Library let’s
individuals test out devices before they buy them.”
Individuals who use the Lending Library may be surprised by the devices they find there. Dalin
believes this is a great advantage of the Lending Library. He participated in a workshop last
year where they demonstrated several devices, where one individual at the workshop learned
about a device they hadn’t known about before. They checked out the device from the Lending
Library, and it worked so well for them that they eventually bought it.
Technology has come really far and can close the gap that makes it difficult for individuals
who experience a disability to go about their daily lives. Oftentimes, people are unaware of
the technology that is available unless there is a place like the AssistiveTechnology Center’s
Assistive technology can help those who experience a disability go
about daily living activities
7
Newsletter
Lending Library to allow them to see it. Dalin says that this technology can be a tremendous
help to individuals working towards whatever goals they are after.
“Some people are working towards independent living skills, going back to school, or going
back to work,” Dalin said. “Whatever an individual’s goal is, the Lending Library likely has a
device that can help that person achieve their goal.”
Dalin says that smart home technology is constantly progressing and can be very helpful. For
instance, an individual experiencing paralysis can use their smart phone or a verbal command
device to adjust settings in their home. If that individual has already gotten in bed for the
night, but is too warm or too cold, they can adjust their thermostat from where they are by
using these devices. Dalin says that assistive technology can have a life-changing impact on an
individual, but oftentimes that individual does not know what is available to them.
“If the Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center wasn’t there, I think it would be really
challenging for an individual to understand what devices are out there,” Dalin said. “In a lot
of cases, the people I supported who were experiencing disabilities benefited so much from
learning about assistive technology and their options through the AssistiveTechnology Center’s
Lending Library.”

John Doe
123 4th street
SmallTown, Iowa 12345
Dear Mr. John Doe,
On behalf of Easter Seals Iowa, we are calling upon you to contribute to a better Iowa for
the disabled members of your community. In the state of Iowa, 353,430 people—nearly 12
percent—live with either long-term or short-term disabilities that make it difficult to complete
daily routine tasks. You can help these individuals by donating new or used medical equipment
to the AssistiveTechnology Center of Easter Seals Iowa.
It is our mission to provide assistive technology to any Iowan in need. Assistive technology
is any technology or device that helps an individual perform tasks that would otherwise be
very difficult or impossible to do.The AssistiveTechnology Center provides a wide variety of
equipment for loan including wheelchairs, walkers, shower benches, and hospital beds. Many
of our programs operate solely through donations of quality durable medical equipment. The
availability of equipment is based on our inventory, so your donations help more people have
access to much-needed technology.
The assistive technology that is provided can have a large impact on an individual’s life.
Kyle Spaulding, a member of the Iowa community, decided to pursue his master’s degree in
Rehabilitation Counseling after experiencing a spinal cord injury. Easter Seals Iowa Assistive
Technology Center provided the assistive technology he needed to succeed in the classroom,
and Kyle was able to graduate in May 2016. This would not have been possible without the
public’s donations to the AssistiveTechnology Center.
We implore you to help more Iowans in need by donating new or used items to Easter Seals
Iowa’s AssistiveTechnology Center. We accept items in good to excellent condition. Call 515-
289-1933 to arrange an appointment to deliver a donation to the AssistiveTechnology Center,
located at 401 NE 66th Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa.
Thank you for your contribution to a better Iowa!

Kim Karwal

Many of these items were created with the intent of informing the public about the Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center and the four services that it provides. Some specific items are calls to action for donations to the AssistiveTechnology Center. Our social media content calendar, PSAs, newsletter article, and news release are informative of what AssistiveTechnology is and how the Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center can benefit users. These items also highlight success stories from users and suggest ways people can donate to your organization. We believe that informing the public about assistive technology and how it benefits people is the best way to create a strong foundation with your audience. Once that foundation is laid, the AssistiveTechnology Center can plan donation campaigns. Our donation brochure, PSAs, and fundraising letter are direct calls to action for donations from the public. These items inform your audience on how to donate, what items to donate, and how their donations make a difference in the lives of those who use the AssistiveTechnology Center. We have included print copies of the scripts was used for our PSAs as well as the digital radio copies for your use.The fundraising letter has been created in a way that a specific person’s information can be added to the John Doe area and distributed immediately. Please let us know if you have any questions and we look forward to hearing back from you. Sincerely, Mantle PR Cover Letter
  • 5. 5 News Release AssistiveTechnology Center Holding Used Equipment Drive DES MOINES, IOWA, December 4, 2016 – The Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center (ATC) will hold a donation drive on January 15, 2017.They will accept used durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, shower transfer benches and lift chairs. The drive will take place at Camp Sunnyside, 401 NE 66th Ave, in Des Moines. Representatives will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to noon. Donors are then welcome to tour the camp and other Easter Seals facilities. Sherri Nielsen, President and CEO of Easter Seals Iowa said, “Donating your used medical equipment is a great way to help disabled Iowans. Each item directly assists a person in need.” Donations are catalogued and then made available for a very small fee. Anyone with a long- term disability or short-term disability due to injury is eligible to apply for the equipment loan. Previous drives have brought in hundreds of donations, and Easter Seals Iowa is hoping for a similar result this time. “More donations means more people can benefit from our services,” said Kim Karwal, a repre- sentative for the ATC. “If you have anything lying around collecting dust, please consider do- nating it.” The ATC holds several equipment drives annually, but it accepts equipment donations year- round. In the Des Moines, items can be dropped off at Camp Sunnyside, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.You can also schedule a pick-up by calling 515-309-2394 or 515-289- 4069 (TTY). • 6. 6 Newsletter Small Business Owner Spreads the Benefits of Easter Seals Iowa March 14, 2017 Kevin Dalin is a small business owner ofTech4Impact located in Johnston, Iowa. Dalin provides assistive technology services to individuals who experience disabilities and require assistive technology to go about daily living activities. The Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center is home to the Lending Library, which he relies on to supply his customers with technology and devices. Dalin checks out equipment from the Lending Library himself and then delivers it to an individual he is supporting. He demonstrates the device to the individual and then leaves it behind for that individual to use if he thinks they can benefit from it. As a small business owner who recommends assistive technology to his customers, Dalin finds the lending Library extremely helpful. “I might think I have a recommendation for an individual about assistive technology, but until they get it in their hands I can’t be certain it’s going to work for them,” Dalin said. “It is so helpful to have a person touch, hold and try a device before they buy it. A person won’t want to purchase an item if they aren’t sure it will work for them, and the Lending Library let’s individuals test out devices before they buy them.” Individuals who use the Lending Library may be surprised by the devices they find there. Dalin believes this is a great advantage of the Lending Library. He participated in a workshop last year where they demonstrated several devices, where one individual at the workshop learned about a device they hadn’t known about before. They checked out the device from the Lending Library, and it worked so well for them that they eventually bought it. Technology has come really far and can close the gap that makes it difficult for individuals who experience a disability to go about their daily lives. Oftentimes, people are unaware of the technology that is available unless there is a place like the AssistiveTechnology Center’s Assistive technology can help those who experience a disability go about daily living activities
  • 7. 7 Newsletter Lending Library to allow them to see it. Dalin says that this technology can be a tremendous help to individuals working towards whatever goals they are after. “Some people are working towards independent living skills, going back to school, or going back to work,” Dalin said. “Whatever an individual’s goal is, the Lending Library likely has a device that can help that person achieve their goal.” Dalin says that smart home technology is constantly progressing and can be very helpful. For instance, an individual experiencing paralysis can use their smart phone or a verbal command device to adjust settings in their home. If that individual has already gotten in bed for the night, but is too warm or too cold, they can adjust their thermostat from where they are by using these devices. Dalin says that assistive technology can have a life-changing impact on an individual, but oftentimes that individual does not know what is available to them. “If the Easter Seals Iowa AssistiveTechnology Center wasn’t there, I think it would be really challenging for an individual to understand what devices are out there,” Dalin said. “In a lot of cases, the people I supported who were experiencing disabilities benefited so much from learning about assistive technology and their options through the AssistiveTechnology Center’s Lending Library.”
  • 8. 8 Fundraising Letter January 1, 2017 John Doe 123 4th street SmallTown, Iowa 12345 Dear Mr. John Doe, On behalf of Easter Seals Iowa, we are calling upon you to contribute to a better Iowa for the disabled members of your community. In the state of Iowa, 353,430 people—nearly 12 percent—live with either long-term or short-term disabilities that make it difficult to complete daily routine tasks. You can help these individuals by donating new or used medical equipment to the AssistiveTechnology Center of Easter Seals Iowa. It is our mission to provide assistive technology to any Iowan in need. Assistive technology is any technology or device that helps an individual perform tasks that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible to do.The AssistiveTechnology Center provides a wide variety of equipment for loan including wheelchairs, walkers, shower benches, and hospital beds. Many of our programs operate solely through donations of quality durable medical equipment. The availability of equipment is based on our inventory, so your donations help more people have access to much-needed technology. The assistive technology that is provided can have a large impact on an individual’s life. Kyle Spaulding, a member of the Iowa community, decided to pursue his master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling after experiencing a spinal cord injury. Easter Seals Iowa Assistive Technology Center provided the assistive technology he needed to succeed in the classroom, and Kyle was able to graduate in May 2016. This would not have been possible without the public’s donations to the AssistiveTechnology Center. We implore you to help more Iowans in need by donating new or used items to Easter Seals Iowa’s AssistiveTechnology Center. We accept items in good to excellent condition. Call 515- 289-1933 to arrange an appointment to deliver a donation to the AssistiveTechnology Center, located at 401 NE 66th Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa. Thank you for your contribution to a better Iowa! Sincerely, Kim Karwal Rural Rehabilitation and AssistiveTechnology Center Support Professional
