2. social network sites like facebook, myspace and twitter are becoming more
and more popular between people of all ages. Take facebook for example, it
was set up originally for adults, however now people as young as 9 have
facebook.
Video sites like you tube or edmodo are used by thousands of people every
day. “Every minute 24 hours worth of video is uploaded to youtube” and that
is just people uploading. If you include people watching and commenting this
demonstrates how social media has become bigger.
Online programs that the user can take part in e.g outcast are also becoming
more popular amongst internet users.
HOW HAS MEDIA BECOME SOCIAL?
Media has become social over
the years in a variety of different ways for example
3. New technologies like being able to record
live T.V enable television to become social
as people often record their favourite
programs like x factor and then arrange a
time to view them with their friends and
family. This can be classed as a social event.
For example x factor final parties.
People can also go into forums or fan
pages about their favourite television
program or their favourite radio station
and discuss what is currently happening.
This gives the programs a social edge to
them as people can share their views and
discuss opinions.
ARE T.V AND RADIO NOT SOCIAL IN
SOME WAY TOO?
4. Social media is different to the way
that traditional media is used as it allows interaction
between the user. This can be demonstrated in things like
“outcast” and also viral videos that people take and create their
own version of.
It is also special because the audience and user can be same
person. Like on social networks for example not only do we
create the content we also view the content
WHAT IS SPECIAL OR DIFFERENT
ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA?
6. To conclude from what we have looked at it appears that there are
multiple things that make social media from social network sites to
advertisers using detection technology .
It is also apparent that in some ways television and radio are social too
because of the use of forums and recording live television.
Finally a quote from ‘Social Media Revolution 2’
“We don’t have a choice on whether we do social media; the question
is how well we do it”
