The document discusses key metrics and strategies for using LinkedIn effectively. It notes that LinkedIn has over 380 million users and gains 2 new users every second, with 35 billion profile views in Q2 2015. The document provides tips for optimizing your LinkedIn profile, including focusing on your day-to-day activities rather than job titles or resume lingo. It also emphasizes connecting with others who can add value to your network and finding influencers in your industry.
10. DON’T
1. Leave it blank.
2. Use resume lingo (goal-oriented,
highly motivated…).
3. Use all 2,000 characters (no one
will read it!).
11. DO!!
1. Day-to-day activities (no jargon
or mentioning your title).
2. Why are you (or your company)
good at this?
3. Be human (tell us something
interesting about YOU).
38. “The greatest win
rates are dominated
by table games, but
the sheer volume of
people flocking to
the slot machines
yields the greatest
payout amounts.
Our
recommendation?
Pool-side with a
cocktail - you win
100% of the time.”
LinkedIn is not “just another social media channel”. It is THE Social Business Channel.
1. Include a profile photo.
These are LinkedIn Profile Photo FAILS!
2. Utilize your headline. Tell us what you DO, not what you ARE.
3. Your Summary is a key.
3 things you should NOT do with your LinkedIn Summary.
3 things you should DO with your LinkedIn Summary.
Think of your Summary as being at a backyard bbq and someone asks, “So… What do you do?”.
SKILLS. The good news - YOU get choose the skills that get listed (and what order they go in). Now, you need your connections to endorse you. The best way to encourage them is to endorse them first.
You don't have to be connected to thought leaders to follow them. Every time they post (or their 'people' post), it shows up in YOUR feed.
You can choose to show or hide each group.
It’s not a numbers game. Don’t be stingy about accepting invitations to connect, but be strategic.
It’s not just about you. Work to help your network… it comes back! Friends, co-workers, family members? Sure. But there are people out there who you have not met yet. How do you connect with THEM?

How do you find great people to connect to? Who are your HEROES?
Who are your heroes? Connect with them!
Ann Handley is one of my heroes. On the side of her profile, I can see who else people view. These are rockstars, too!
InMail – Premium users have the ability to send a message to anyone (even if they aren’t connected). This is VALUABLE.
Tips for gaining insights on LinkedIn
At the top of the page, # of people who viewed your profile.
This dashboard is a gold mine. Who is looking at your profile and posts. How many actions you have taken (and how you can get a larger audience).
Plus, vanity stats! :D
LinkedIn is truly a publishing platform (and probably the best one!)
Link to your blog… post directly on LI…. Add video…. Share Slideshare presentations… Share images…. All these activities drive traffic to your profile – and it’s indexed by Google!
Post on LI or on blog and promote on LI?
I get more traffic on LI than my blog. Google indexes LI. I do better here than on my blog!

Paying is similar to AdWords. It only costs when someone clicks on the ad.
This is the chart and blog post it our ad links to – Vegas: Payouts and Odds. The best bet? A pool-side cocktail.
LinkedIn used to be seen as a job board… and it does still have amazing search features for jobs.
The advanced search feature gives fantastic opportunities.
