2. WHAT IS OATH?
A solemn pronouncement to confirm the truth of a statement or
to pledge a person to some course of action.
يمين : Oath
3. TYPES OF OATH:
Unintended oath:
When the Muslim takes an oath concerning something which he believes to be true and then
find out it is or not, or when the person taking the oath does not intend it as an oath – NO
BLAME ON THIS TYPE OF OATH
Intended Oath:
Taking an oath to commit a sin, such as cutting off ties of kinship. – NOT TO BE FULFILLED
If man takes an oath to do something that is permitted, and then finds something better, he
may
disregard the first and do the second, provided he makes an expiation for the oath. – MUST
FULFILL THE BETTER OPTION.
5. TRANSLATION:
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths,
but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of
oaths.
So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that
which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave.
But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required].
That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths.
Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful.
6. EXPIATION FOR BREAKING OR NOT FULFILLING AN
INTENDED OATH
Feeding Ten Needy People – from what you eat of yourself.
OR Clothing Ten Needy People – from what you wear yourself.
OR Freeing a Slave
IN CASE of Not Affording or Not Finding Needy People of Slave
THEN…
…Fast for Three consecutive Days
7. WHAT IS VOWS?
A Vow is the action, on the part of a person
who is adult and of sound mind (Mukallaf),
of obliging himself to do something that is
not obligatory.
نذر : Vow
8. TYPES OF VOWS:
A vow to do a good deed = The vowed act is a good deed that
would bring man closer to Allah.
A vow to commit a sin = The vowed act is a sin.
An absolute vow = The vowed act is not specified.

HAS VOWED TO OBEY ALLAH
SHOULD OBEY HIM. BUT HE WHO HAS
VOWED TO DISOBEY ALLAH,

THE PROPHET (S.A.W) SAID ‘THERE IS NO
VOW AND NO OATH
CONCERNING THAT WHICH ONE DOES NOT
POSSES, NOR TO COMMIT A
SIN, NOR TO SEVER THE TIES OF KINSHIP’.
