Overview – Submission 9th May, 2022
• In groups of between 4 – 6, you will conduct an investigation
relating to a case study organisation and associated industry
of your choice. The research will be presented using
powerpoint slides and you will also need to submit
accompanying notes that justify the content of your
powerpoint slides .
• The presentation needs to be min of 10 mins and max of 15
minutes long. The presentation will be pre-recorded ( voice
only) using Panopto.

What does each group submit? – All
uploads submitted on 9th May 2022
• 1)The presentation slides - slides will need to include appropriate in text
references and a reference list. The front slide needs to include name and
student numbers of all group members
• 2) Additionally ( on the same day), all groups must also submit a word document
with the research that underpins the content of each slide ( so “snip” of slide 1 –
then underpinning research justifying content; snip of slide 2 etc) and a full
bibliography. It is important to note, that these underpinning research notes are
NOT the transcript for your presentation. Although there may be some crossover,
what you say during your presentation will be different to these research notes.
Your presentation must be able to make sense in its own right – without the
marker having to read your research notes. The research notes, need to be
coherent and referenced, but can be bulleted, include diagrams / figures etc.
There is no requirement to write as an essay.
• 3) Finally, on 9th you need to upload your pre-recorded Panopto presentation

In essence, you need to complete the
following tasks / address the following
questions
 Consider the extent to which the organisation and associated
industry has been digitally disrupted
 Include examples and critique of digital transformation
initiatives relating to the organisation / industry ( focus on a
couple –not possible to cover all)
 Assess how the organisation has managed these digital
transformation initiatives
 Comment upon key technological factors that may impact upon
the future of work in this industry

Two Stage Process
• Firstly, your group needs to carry out the investigation and address the tasks above.
This needs to be written up. This underpinning research will be worth 60% of the
grade for assignment 2.
• Secondly, you can design your slides and prepare for your presentation. The
presentation will be worth 40% of the grade for assignment 2. You will be assessed on
the quality of your slides, organisation of presentation and presentation skills. We
need to get a sense that this was a group effort.

Choice of organisation (1)
• Can be any type or organisation / Industry e.g Public Sector, Third
Sector, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary etc. etc. From anywhere in the
world.
• HOWEVER, be strategic / realistic – don’t make the assignment
difficult by choosing an inappropriate or challenging organisation e.g
too little to discuss, no access to research information, too complex
• In your groups I would suggest that you research several
organisations before deciding. Ultimately, your opinions /
evaluations must be based upon something – needs to be relevant
sources out there!

Choice of organisation (2)
• So choose an organisation from an industry which has
been impacted by digital disruption / transformation
“enough” – doesn’t have to be catastrophic disruption, but
you need to have things to discuss
• So e.g we have discussed travel, retail, newspapers, music,
manufacturing, banking etc.
• Fine to choose an organisation that has been created as a
result of digital disruption ( e.g. AirBnB) – though think it
may be easier to choose an incumbent organisation (e.g
Marriott) and discuss from their perspective

• We have covered theory / models etc. in lectures that
relate to these 4 questions – there is an expectation that
you will use this theory to help answer the questions.
Additionally, content from your literature reviews may me
useful
• E.g Consider the extent to which the organisation and
associated industry has been digitally disrupted
– 5 forces, value concept, BMI all relevant to this question
– Perhaps some key definitions from your literature review (
beware recycling and stay focussed) 9

• It is essential that the investigation and presentation is not
overly theoretical – it needs to be applied specifically to
your organisation
• So sources could be very wide ranging and even quite
popularist e.g
– Consultancy reports, magazines linked to industry, marketing
week, blogs, newspapers etc – we will practice this in week 8
workshop.
