▰ Political Factors:
• Political stability is essential for flow of raw materials and to maintain
best in class supply chain efficiency.
• With political instability the laws change more frequently.
• The government laws related to contract, taxation, intellectual property
(IP) protection are necessary to be in place.
• Level of government intervention in free market and capital goods is also a decisive political factor.
21
▰Economic Factors:
• Too high inflation rate is not preferred for profitable business, due to this the raw material becomes costly resulting in the
rise of cost of final product.
• High interest rates are bad for both business and the customer.
• The stability in the economic market and exchange rates is an important factor.
• The rate of GDP growth in the country
▰Social Factors:
• The demographics of the population, meaning their respective ages and genders, vastly impact whether or not a certain
product may be marketed to them.
• The economic class distribution in each area needs to be taken care of.
• CSR activities through Reliance foundation.
22
23
 Technological Factors:

• Advanced social media marketing
• Advancements in telecom sector like 4G network, upcoming 5G network and fiber-net broadband.

Porters Five Forces of Reliance Industries
For determining the competition level in the industry, it is essential for the company to use Porter five forces model, which
helps in identifying the strategic position of the industry and helps in making effective decisions.
 Bargaining Power of Buyers
The issue in case of reliance industries is moderate on aggregate level, but differs on individual basis. However, on the
aggregate level it is gaining cost advantage and have control on prices. It is necessary for the
corporation to decrease the bargaining power of buyers on segment basis and increase the
customer base.
 Bargaining Power of Suppliers
The suppliers of the Reliance industry are much more as compared to buyers, who are also
providing the services, which lowers the price control of Reliance in telecommunication
industry. However, in case of not achieving the cost advantage, Reliance industries supply
chain is very efficient and can easily switch between the suppliers. Reliance industries has to work on the supplier
contractual relationship, to achieve benefits and economies of scales.
 Threats of New Entrants
Threats of new entrants for reliance industries is low as the corporation is a big giant of India, and it is hard to compete
with it for the newcomer. It requires huge capital and numerous marketing strategies to build a good customer base for the
new entrant.
26
 Threats from the Substitute Products
Threats from the substitute products is moderate however on the individual basis it differs. It is necessary for the reliance
industries to offer more differentiated products & increase the switching cost of the products so that the customers will not
switch to the alternatives.
 Rivalry of Existing Players
For competing with rivals, it is important for the RIL to stand on implicit needs and the customers' expectations to
strengthen their bond. The corporation must spend more in R&D and look more for mergers and acquisition to reduce the
competition in the industry.

  • 21. Business Environment & Competitor Analysis PESTEL Analysis :- It is a strategic framework used to evaluate the external environment of a business by breaking down the opportunities and risks into Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal factors. It can be an effective framework to use in Corporate Strategy Planning and for identifying the pros and cons of a Business Strategy. ▰ Political Factors: • Political stability is essential for flow of raw materials and to maintain best in class supply chain efficiency. • With political instability the laws change more frequently. • The government laws related to contract, taxation, intellectual property (IP) protection are necessary to be in place. • Level of government intervention in free market and capital goods is also a decisive political factor. 21
  • 22. ▰Economic Factors: • Too high inflation rate is not preferred for profitable business, due to this the raw material becomes costly resulting in the rise of cost of final product. • High interest rates are bad for both business and the customer. • The stability in the economic market and exchange rates is an important factor. • The rate of GDP growth in the country ▰Social Factors: • The demographics of the population, meaning their respective ages and genders, vastly impact whether or not a certain product may be marketed to them. • The economic class distribution in each area needs to be taken care of. • CSR activities through Reliance foundation. 22
  • 23. 23  Technological Factors: • Retail and the improved ERP functioning, • Advanced social media marketing • Advancements in telecom sector like 4G network, upcoming 5G network and fiber-net broadband. • The huge cash and carry stores of Reliance Industries have robots and machine in place to move huge and heavy chunk of material.  Environmental Factors: • The emissions that are given out into the air has to be regulated under the suggested limits. • The plastic waste generated cannot be dumped into the water bodies. • The carbon footprints generated by the company are to be minimized as much as possible. • Focus on using Renewable energy.  Legal Factors: • Labor laws which protect basic rights of every labor including minimum wages. • Environment protection laws for the manufacturing units and their industrial waste disposal. • Contract laws, corporate laws, Health and safety laws. • Pending legal issues.
  • 24. 24SWOT Analysis SWOT Analysis is a proven management framework which enables a brand like Reliance Industries Limited to benchmark its business & performance as compared to the competitors and industry. Strengths •Strong Market Position with diverse Brand Portfolio •Brand Name and financial position allow RIL to expand •Operational and expansion advantage indifferent business verticals •Successful track record of Integration •Reliance Jio & Digital Services Weaknesses •Relatively weak financial ratios •Limited success outside core business •Less investment in R&D •No regular supply of innovative products Opportunities •Tapping the Online market segment •Expanding business in more emerging markets •Infrastructural development in domestic and offshore operational units Threats •Intense competition from all sectors •Litigations may impact business expansion
  • 25. 25 Porters Five Forces of Reliance Industries For determining the competition level in the industry, it is essential for the company to use Porter five forces model, which helps in identifying the strategic position of the industry and helps in making effective decisions.  Bargaining Power of Buyers The issue in case of reliance industries is moderate on aggregate level, but differs on individual basis. However, on the aggregate level it is gaining cost advantage and have control on prices. It is necessary for the corporation to decrease the bargaining power of buyers on segment basis and increase the customer base.  Bargaining Power of Suppliers The suppliers of the Reliance industry are much more as compared to buyers, who are also providing the services, which lowers the price control of Reliance in telecommunication industry. However, in case of not achieving the cost advantage, Reliance industries supply chain is very efficient and can easily switch between the suppliers. Reliance industries has to work on the supplier contractual relationship, to achieve benefits and economies of scales.  Threats of New Entrants Threats of new entrants for reliance industries is low as the corporation is a big giant of India, and it is hard to compete with it for the newcomer. It requires huge capital and numerous marketing strategies to build a good customer base for the new entrant.
  • 26. 26  Threats from the Substitute Products Threats from the substitute products is moderate however on the individual basis it differs. It is necessary for the reliance industries to offer more differentiated products & increase the switching cost of the products so that the customers will not switch to the alternatives.  Rivalry of Existing Players For competing with rivals, it is important for the RIL to stand on implicit needs and the customers' expectations to strengthen their bond. The corporation must spend more in R&D and look more for mergers and acquisition to reduce the competition in the industry.
