3. ELECTROSTATICS
AND MAGNETS
It is a phenomenon associated with stationary or moving electric
charges (DBE, 2011). Learner should utilize their knowledge of
structures and electromagnets to complete the investigation
(DBE, 2011). The learner should demonstrate their knowledge of
pulleys and levers (DBE, 2011).
Electric charge is a fundamental property of matter and is borne
by elementary particles. In electricity the particle involved is
the electron, which carries a charge, as negative. Electricity
is not a form of energy. Instead, it is said that an electric current
is a flow of “electricity”.

4. CREATE A
WORKING MODEL
• Design a crane system using materials of all sorts!
• The mechanisms of the crane should be functional (
the arm should be able to pivot or be raised or
lowered)
• There should be an electromagnet that functions at
the end of the arm
• The crane should pick up 5 paper clips, one coin and
a nail.

INSTRUCTIONS
• Watch the video on how to build an electromagnetic crane model
• You are required to build a working electromagnetic crane model
• Your crane model should more than 10cm in heigh
• Collect the materials necessary for completing your crane model (inform your
parent/supervision at home to help collect the materials)
• Design a drawing of how you expect your crane model
• Label your drawing accordingly
• Complete a paragraph of 300-400 words explaining how you completed your crane
model from start to finish
• Write the constraints your faced while completing the activity.
• PAY ATTENTION TO THE RUBRIC!
