1. To Whom It May Concern: May 13, 2015
I am pleased to be writing a letter of recommendation for Asha Erler. I first met Asha as a
substitute teacher for my science classes during the 2012-2013 school year at Central High
School.
Asha is a reliable, energetic individual. Asha is my most preferred substitute due to the
consistent dedication, ability to connect with students, and implementation of lesson plans and
behavior expectations. Many teachers within Central are eager to have Asha provide substitute
coverage. On days when Asha is available to substitute for me, I feel confident that my students
will learn the content material as I have specified. When my instructions have been unclear,
Asha takes the reigns to discern and implement my lesson plans. My confidence in Asha is a
tremendous relief to me as a teacher. For over two years, Asha has consistently been a
remarkable substitute teacher.
Many students have told me they enjoy having Asha as their teacher because of the way
in which they connect on a personal level. Asha asks questions and engages with the students in
an authentic, compassionate manner. Many students know Asha by name and look forward to a
fresh presence and willingness to connect. As a GLBT and gender identity advocate, Asha
presents a safe adult role model and resource. Students also like the way in which Asha holds
them accountable for appropriate classroom behavior, maintaining a calm and respectful
environment even when the primary teacher is out of the building for the day. When select
students try to exploit Asha’s substitute-teacher role, they quickly discover my behavior
expectations will be enforced fairly and consistently. By retaining control over the classroom,
Asha facilitates learning.
I am absolutely confident of Asha’s potential. The results of Asha’s efforts and
experiences have produced an individual who is enthusiastic, diligent, and well-rounded. Please
do not hesitate to call (651.632.6000 lisa.houdek@spps.org) if you have any questions regarding
Asha’s abilities or qualifications.
Sincerely,
Lisa M. Houdek
