• A biological or synthetic substance which can be
introduced into body tissue as part of an implanted
medical device(as an artificial joint) or used to replace an
organ, bodily function, etc.
• They serve as mechanical scaffolds or supporting
structures for growing cells and tissues
4. NATURAL BIOMATERIAL
• Biomaterials which are naturally available are called as
Natural biomaterials
• These are biocompatibility, biodegradability and
remodeling. Therefore, these biomaterials are usually
applied in the repair or replacement of damaged human
tissues and organs.
