Practically daily, news headlines tell of catastrophic crises befalling businesses — whether they’re natural disasters like floods or earthquakes, or manmade disasters like data breaches or Ransomware attacks.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a cheat sheet that helped you translate body language into sales success?
Well this Biz Café speaker may just have one.
Join us for an interactive session called “Body Language – Myths and Magic!” Speaker Alexanne Stone, Sales and Body Language Trainer, believes that your body speaks its own language — and it can help enhance your message, or it can stop it in its tracks.
Yes, your nonverbals are constantly “speaking,” which may be affecting your sales and exchanges — at work and at home.

- The power of four body language poses that kill your 30-second elevator speech.

Editor's Notes
People believe what they see…not what they hear. DEMO “I am a body language expert.” How many of you believed me?
Congruency is so important. You can sabotage your message simply by the way you use your personal space, physical gestures, posture, facial expression and eye contact. What if what you say doesn’t match what you do. Why should you care?
Knowing body language has proven effects on performance - productivity, employee morale, repeat business, improved employee retention and a healthier work environment overall. Not to mention the benefits at home! And...
These numbers can vary based on the situation, but as much as 93% of YOUR message is delivered in the tone of your voice and your body language. Everything from the way you stand to the smallest micro-movement in your face.
Exciting Times! Science has shown that there is a link between body language and leadership results. Body language should be at the top of EVERY Leader’s To Do List in today’s world of visual technology and cross-cultural workforce.
Let’s look at the common body language myths. Many people think that crossing your arms means you’re closed or lying. Both are a myth. People cross their arms for many reasons, comfort, cold… This is comfortable….THIS is closed!
One of these myths is that if you are looking up – you are lying. We process information in pictures, sounds and feelings. Looking up may simply mean you’re looking at pictures in your brain.
Another myth is around the direct stare. Someone may simply think that they need to maintain eye contact with you. Some cultures do the opposite and don’t even look at you. How do you know who is lying?
Here’s where you start…7 facial expressions that are common to every single culture in the world. CONSCIOUSLY know these and you have the start in understanding when something doesn’t register or you get that inner feeling that something isn’t quite right.
Much of what we are seeing is called a “micro-expression” – a fleeting expression for a second that registers at the unconscious level. We “step over” these unconscious messages through much of our conversation. And we hope no one actually notices.
Here’s the truth….you need to establish a baseline first before you can determine if someone is lying. But…you knew this – unconsciously already. It’s why we ask common questions to start any conversation. Now…really pay attention!
Let’s talk about body posture. The top row signifies power while the bottom pretty powerless. Which do you use with the people you lead? Which do you use with those who are in power over you? And…what about at home? Your kids? Your spouse? What will you notice now?
Notice as you deliver a message which body posture you are adopting. Then notice how changing body postures even effects your tone of voice and how you actually ask for something.
DEMO Placating – Can you get this to me by end of day? DEMO Irrelevant – Can you get this to me by end of day? DEMO Leveling – Can you get this to me by end of day?
DEMO Leveler
Pay attention to your own body language. Notice where you are incongruent. Align your message both verbally and non-verbally. And…I’m not suggesting that you can change your thinking by changing your physiology…
Our younger generations need training – They’re buried in social media where its not required. This global shift in both workforce and conventions from authoritarian to collaborative leadership means it’s up to you!
