Dear Madam or Sir,
I am writing to recommend Xirui Yang, one of my students graduated in 2015 at Beijing University
of Posts and Telecommunications. I first knew him through the course of Fundamentals of Network
and Information Security in 2014 spring. Unlike many other students who just sought for credits,
Mr. Yang listened very carefully and asked questions at almost every break, trying to exploit every
aspect of the theoretical frameworks I taught in class. In the final assignments, Mr. Yang
accomplished his works among the earliest. His reports were well organized, in depth and width,
which made him get a 90+ score among top 10% students.
After another semester, he came to discuss his graduation project with me, as he didn’t have a
mentor at school, only with mobile and uncertain help from his colleagues. He said his research
topic “Research of Intrusion Prevention System based on Snort” originated from a section I taught
in class half a year ago, and he met problems in the mid-term presentation in front of school dean
and professors. I looked through his mid-term reports, full of framework design pictures which
were actually beyond the original expectancy of an undergraduate graduation project. There were
some places lack of thorough consideration, so I gave him some hints, but didn’t tell him in detail.
He understood quickly and went back to revise. Several weeks later, he succeeded in accomplishing
his project and got his diploma.
Just before he graduated, he came to my office, told me he wanted to go abroad for graduate
studying, and wanted me to make recommendation for him. I encouraged him to study and work
abroad to open horizon and meet more innovative partners, as global horizon and international
communication ability are very important to nowadays’ IT elites. We discussed a lot about the
current situation and future of IT industry and it was really a pleasure to talk with Mr. Yang. This
recommendation letter, shows my best wish of his bright academic and professional career.
