that brings about major shift in the society.
Statement of Inquiry
 Innovations and ideas are developed by a
variety of causes and can bring about
lasting change to individuals and societies.
What is the difference between an IDEA and
INNOVATION?
 Ideas can be defined as a new way of looking at
something, as a solution to some problem or a new
approach.
 An innovation can be another word for an idea OR
anything / product that is new.
Example – Invention of wheel can be seen as an
innovation which brought about lasting changes.
Task - 1
 Objective – In groups, choose one of the ideas from
the list of Tim Crane’s ideas. Research and briefly
present your ideas to the class.

RENAISSANCE
 Renaissance means rebirth comes from the French word
‘RENAITRE’.
 It was a general re-awakening, a revival or rebirth of
learning
 Period between approx. 1400 – 1600 CE
 Renaissance was named by Swiss historian named
JACOB BURCKHARDT
 Rediscovery of ancient learning from the Roman and
Greek civilizations.
 It upheld the dignity of the human being and renewed
the sense of nationalism
 It is also the time for increased trade among the
countries – period of exploration

  1. Renaissance began in Italian Cities. Particularly important was city state of Florence which was controlled by the influential Medici Family in the 15th century.
