2. COMPONENTS OF FOOD
Food contains nutrients which are required by the body
in adequate amounts to grow and stay healthy. The
main nutrients present in food are carbohydrates , fats,
proteins , vitamins and minerals. Food also contain
water and roughage.
Carbohydrates , proteins and fats are called
macronutrients as these are required in large
quantities in our daily diet , while vitamin and minerals
are called micronutrients as these are required in small
quantities in our daily diet.
4. PROTEINS
Proteins help in growth
and repair of tissues. They
also help in building
muscles. Groundnuts ,
beans, pulses ,fish, eggs,
milk, cheese and curd are
some food items rich in
proteins.
5. FATS
Fats also provide energy to
the body . Butter , oil ,
ghee and nuts are some
food item rich in fats
6. VITAMINS
Vitamins are required in
small quantities to keep
our body fit and protect it
against diseases. Green
leafy vegetable, carrot,
fish, eggs, milk and fruits
are some food item rich in
vitamins.
7. MINERALS
Mineral help in physical
and mantel growth of the
body and keep our bones
and teeth strong and
healthy . Milk , cheese ,
eggs, fruit, and vegetables
are some food items rich in
Minerals.
8. roughage
Roughage (also called dietary fiber)is the
undigested portion of the plant food. It adds bulk to
our diet. It helps in easy passage of food. Cereals,
unpolished rice and grain, fresh fruits and vegetables
are some source of roughage.
9. WATER
Water is required for almost all functions of
our body. We should drink plenty of water(at
least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily)to stay
healthy.
10. BALANCED DIET
A diet that has all the
components of food in
adequate amount is called a
balanced diet. A balanced diet
is essential for the proper
growth and functioning the
body. In addition to a balanced
diet, our body need regular
exercise , adequate rest and
sleep to stay healthy and active.
Exercise keeps our bones and
muscles strong. Rest and sleep
keep us relaxed and refreshed.
