Department of case taking and
repertory
2.
3. DEFINITION
• Technique in FRENCH means the method of performance,
especially everything concerned with the mechanical part
of an artistic performance
4. •In technique we cover the platform for
repertorisation it may be in the form of a pencil
paper usage, a cursory glance through the books,
use of ready- made symptom cards, or computer
monitor.
6. OLD METHOD
• Using PLAIN PAPER
• In this method, rubrics are arranged according to the hierarchy, and
the medicines are listed against them. All the medicines with their
grades are written by hand against the symptoms. At the end,
common medicines which cover all the rubrics are found out. They
are further differentiated with reference to the materia medica.
7.
8. ADVANTAGES OF OLD METHOD
• While writing the symptoms, referring to the rubrics and noting
down the medicines, one learns to use the repertory in a better way
10. MODERN METHOD
1. Thumb-finger method/Book mark
2. Repertory chart/Sheets.
3. Card system technique
4. Auto-visual technique
5. Coin playing technique
6. Calculator technique
7. Totality founder technique
8. Computer softwares
11. THUMB-FINGER
TECHNIQUE
• This method is meant for quick reference in a busy
practice, for those who have more experience with the
repertory.
• Usually 2 or 3 Characteristic symptoms are taken.
• Book marks or thumb and fingers are placed at the pages
where the selected rubrics are present.
• This rubrics are scanned visually, and the frequently
occuring medicines which have higher grades are short
listed for selecting the similimum.
• Demo
12.
13. Merits
• Useful when the symptoms are less in number.
• Useful when the rubrics indicate less number of medicines.
• No necessity of writing symptoms or medicines but only mental
work.
• Time taken is very less, useful for busy practitioners.
De-merits
• Visual errors can lead to failures
• Little use when number of symptoms are more.
14. REPERTORY GRAPH
TECHNIQUE
• This is simple, more refined and scientific method.
• In this technique repertorisation is done on sheets when
are skilfully and carefully devised to save the time and hard
work and are specifically prepared for the repertory that is
to be used.
• The chart having number of rows and columns.
• Medicines are printed on the first column and the
symptoms are written on first row.
15.
16.
17.
18. Merits
• The marks scored by the medicines are represented in the
blocks at the intersection of the symptoms and the
medicines.
• The similimum is selected on the basis of repertory value.
• This technique is useful for the aggregation method of
repertorisation, because time consumption is very less.
• It is unnecessary to use this technique for the elimination
method for obvious reasons.
19. De- merits
• Medicines represented in the sheets are less in number.
• Only polychrests are predominantly represented.
20. CARD SYSTEM TECHNIQUE
•These are repertories which are in the form of
prepared cards.
•Each Card represent a symptom, cards are
arranged together and the similimum is found out.
21.
22. MERITS
• There is no need of writing down or book markings
• This method is that it saves time and the labour compared to
the plain paper method and repertorial sheet method
DEMERITS
limited amount of learning as there is no exposure to each symptom along
with its group of remedies

28. The technique developed by Dr. Ramanlal
P Patel of kollyan kerala India.
Construction of the apparatus Autovisual
apparatus: 435 medicines in a numerical
order from above downwards. Each
medicine is provided with a code number.
Autostrips: Includes 5505 Autostrips. Each
autostrip represents a rubric,has a
number(1,2,3) on top representing rubric
number. In many places, the autostrips are
marked with A,B,C along with
numbers(40A,65C,70B). These represent
the additions to original work.
AUTOVISUAL TECHNIQUE
29. The autostrips are grooved at several places which
represent the indicated medicines. Each groove on the
autostrip corresponds to the homeopathic medicine(out of
435) in autovisual apparatus.
Gradation as in kent’s;
Red-3 Yellow-2 Black-1
Again there are two heavy grooves(Green) one at the top
and other at bottom as ‘Guidelines’ to match with the
‘Guidelines’ of autovisual apparatus.
The autostrip numbers are also coloured Red or Black to
denote ‘Generals’ & ‘Particulars’ respectively.
Handbook of repertory; Rubrics with their code numbers
arranged in systematic manner with an index, along with
page numbers of kent’s repertory.
30. COIN PLAYING TECHNIQUE
• It is an economic, time saving, non moneterous, enjoyable
play and work for finding out the correct prescription by
arithmatic calculation. By this process one can repertorise
as many cases he likes by a single set.
31. CALCULATOR TECHNIQUE
• This is not actually a machine made up of metals with
electronic system, but simply by a book, working like a
calculator, calculating the individual and total matchings
and grades of the homoeopathic medicines when one,few
or many symptoms puzzle the physician. This book has
mainly two parts
1. Rubric part
2. Calculator part
32. The Rubric part- Includes rubrics & subrubrics with their
code numbers arranged systematically.
Eg; 1. Leucorrhoea, before menses-41
2. Leucorrhoea,yellow-79
3. Leucorrhoea,pungent-60
The Calculator part- It contains the name of medicine as
heading of the chapter, which is subdivided into several
subchapters as per the type of repertory.
Eg; The calculator from BTPB-subchapters-
Location,Complaint,Sensation,Modalities,Concomitant
33. 2 7 41 60 66 79 80
Kreos X 3 3 1 X 3 3 13/5
Hydras X X X X 3 3 X 6/2
Bor X 3 X X 2 X X 5/2
Graph X 3 3 X 2 2 X 10/4
Sep 1 3 3 X x 3 x 10/4
34. TOTALITY FOUNDER
TECHNIQUE
• Totality founder is an apparatus which gives the correct
solution of complicated cases with good many
rubrics(symptoms) of different characters by mathematical
calculation in total matching and total grades within few
minutes only. This apparatus may be called a mini
computer, without electronic system.
• It includes galvanized plates, on which diagrammatic
papers are pasted
35. COMPUTER AIDED
TECHNIQUE
• The software has to be programmed in the computer first.
Then open the software and then select the rubric one by
one from the selected repertory and finally click on to the
repertorisation chart to get the result.
• It is latest and the easiest technique by which the
repertorisation process can be completed.
• This technique is the most advanced one in the present
scenario.
• Demo
40. Merits
• No paper work
• With in two or four minutes the repertorisation can be completed.
• Working with the software is a mechanical process, so the result
always depends on the selection of rubrics from the repertory.
41. De-merits
• Computer means count of estimate from which the very
apparatus which counts, the term computer has been
named. But the dictionary shows it has computator.
• The main aim of the computer is to broadcast the
demanded result after the supply the essential data.
