This document provides information about the Lebanese band Mashrou' Leila. It discusses their formation in 2008 at the American University of Beirut, emerging as a hit band after playing small venues. It describes their controversial themes and style which sparked controversy at their first performance. It also mentions their two studio albums and the band members, as well as their lyrics merging old and new styles.
1. Anti-smoking campaign
smoking leads to serious and leathal diseases, thus the word
execution used here. Mashing up between one of the classic
ways of execution and the smokes shoes the seriousness
of this issue. Brown and dark colors underline the nastiness
of the smoke effect on the lungs whereas yellow is used to grab
people's attention and is used to link between the "TWIST"
and the packs. the red color of the hands indicates danger.
We may notice that the "convicts' " eyes are not totally covered
this shows that smokers are aware of the fact that smoking kills.
2. THE PROBLEM WITH SOFTWARE IS THAT EVERYONE HAS IT.
Incomplete manifesto of growth- Bruce Mau.
"Avoid Software, the problem with software is that everyone has it"
Detaching the two words "avoid" and "software" and never letting
them touch helped in the litteral translation of the quote.
Bold and large letters were used to put "avoid" under the spotlight
the explanation phrase "the problem...has it" underlines the fact
that people should avoid software.
3. "What goes around comes around"
One of the most popular quotes. The aim here is to visually
"explain" the quote's subtext in a poster. light and dark spaces
are used to indicate "good and evil " what goes from light
spaces comes back as good and what starts from the darker
places comes back as evil. The mirror effect "arround" underlines
the quote's very first meaning, what you give you receive. the red
box shows the circle within the one the whole process works.
4. extra safe
Durex extra safe.
The idea here was to underline in a fun and new way the safety
of this product. Usually durex ads are designed using
photographs and rarely typography. Using illustration is a new
way to get to the ads' point, covering multiple targets
such as teenagers and adults. The sperm here is portrayed as
badass convict who got caught for attempt of reproduction.
5. Christmas greetings-Bsaibes
Bsaibes interior contacted me for
a facebook season's greetings card
asking for a happy and cosy chirstmas
greeting card. The selection of colors
shows the formality and tidiness mashed
up with the season's joy, using classic
chirstmas colors. The wooden door's subtext
is that people should feel free to knock on
Bsaibes's door anytime of year.
New years greetings from Bsaibes
Just like the christmas geertings , Bsaibes wanted
to wish everyone a happy new year. The design
used here was inspired by actual interior design
maps to create the outline of . we can notice
doors, stairs, windows etc...
the background brings a certain warmth and
happiness to the greeting card which somehow
translates Bsaibes s wishes for a happy and
successful year.
6. Ammiq the phoenix book cover
This book covers design helps the title
summerise Ammiqs historical event.
this village located in the Bekaa was totally
destoyed due to an earthquake and then
rebuilt in exactly the same way which
granted it the title the phoenix.
As we see in the front page of the cover,
the houses base is in black and white which
represents a destoryed house coming out
of its ashes and being rebuilt in exactly
the same way, which is represented by
the colored part of the house.
The mosaique effect was not set in vain, but
represents tiny shreds of old pieces glued
together to form a new exact same replica
of the village.
The verso shows somewhat a panoramic
view of Ammiq.

Formation and early years
The band was formed in February 2008 at the American University of Beirut, when
violinist Haig Papazian, guitarist Andre Chedid and pianistOmaya Malaeb posted an
open invitation to musicians looking to jam to vent the stress caused by college and
the unstable political situation.[2][3][4] Out of a dozen of people who answered the
call, seven would remain to form Mashrou' Leila.[2][3] Band members were encour-aged
by friends to perform in front of a live crowd; they put on a show as the opening
act for a concert on the AUB campus . During the event Mashrou' Leila proved to be
the only band who were writing and playing their original music.[4] What started as
a workshop evolved into a hit band after playing in small venues, and gaining ground
on the underground music circuit.[2]
Mashrou' Leila emerged onto Lebanon’s music scene during the Lebanese 2008
Fête de la Musique event (the yearly Music festival held by theBeirut municipality)

Mashrou layla a Lebanese band
This news letter talks about mashrou layla
a Lebanese band.
The layout is based on a grid made out of squares
and is noticible mainly in the rst page. We can
also notice that even the typefaces used are also
based on squared shapes.
If you follow the red design, you might notice
that the pattern used to create its path is
extracted from the type face used to write the
title in arabic.
the yellow came to break the monotony of the
design. The old paper texture used in
the background underlines the slogan
merging the old with the new.
8. Buzz special edition can.
The goal of this project was to create a buzz
can and package specially made for lebanese
consumers.
The idea here , was to promote Lebanon in the
past, this using a phrase all our parenrs say
bl zaman.
I wanted to promote old Lebanon to enlarge
Buzzs target market, this using old pitcures
which attract people who lived in this era
and since Buzz rst target is people from
younger ages, it helps them relate to their
parentss stories.
The yellowish color gives puts us under
the impression of looking at an older picture.
9. Senior Lorenzo illustration
The purpose of this project was to
create a character.
Giving it its own persona , its own
looks and even its own profession.
In order to create it, we had to follow
a whole process, starting from pen
and paper, to sculpting the character
and coloring it and nally digitialising it.
Senior Lorenzo , is an angry ,lazy
butler. He is new to the butler
business since he was a wealthy man
who had a downfall, and had to work
as a butler, keeping all of his prestige
and arrogant personality keeping him
from taking orders and obeying rules.

Khayzaran handmade furniture
the purpose of this project was to create a logo
for a virtual company.
So we had to come up with a company , under only
one condition , that is had to be an arabic named one.
So i came up with the idea of handmade furniture.
The logos is made out of three elements, a chair , the
letter K and kh in arabic.
The typeface was carefully selected because it has both
thin and thick lines just like a bamboo stick. khayzaran

JTC contacted me for a new logo, and
presented me with one condition
the logo had to had the initials in it .
To begin with this company deals with
canned vegetables thus the green color,
also I stylized a leaf and placed it over
the J , which gives the impression of a plant,
the style used for the leaf represents the dents
of a metalic can.

This logo tranlsates a clear idea of what
a classic lebanese food store does.
The kind of stores that only sell housemade
food, such as labne , olive , jam , olive oil ...
Since our cuisine depends largely on olive oil,
I chose the olive to create the overall of the logo.
The dot used in the middle represents a drop
of olive oil , and is used to write the letter N in arabic.
