3. Video/ Social tease
Music videos and social teases are a great way to interest
audiences. Social teases give the audience a taste of the
upcoming content the band/individual will release at a later date.
Music videos are used to promote songs using visuals. They can
be a great way to tell a story through their lyrics and the
audiences can relate to some of the themes in music videos.

4. Posters
Posters are really useful to give fans an easy way to get
information on upcoming things for the bands., but also to display
the band to new people, who may see the posters in shop
windows. An example of using posters, is using them to give
information of an upcoming gig. Posters can be physical, but they
can also be posted on social media. Posters usually include a
picture of the band so new viewers can get aa feel for the bands
style.

5. Promotional Podcasts
Podcasts are an interview style, slightly casual way of learning
about a band. In podcasts bands usually answer questions such
as “what was the story behind this song?” and “How was the
band formed?”. This can give listeners a better knowledge of
bands, and they can learn new information that thy may not have
been able to learn without the podcasts.

6. Album Covers
Album covers are used as a visual for an album. Each bands
album cover could be completely unique, as it represents the
band themselves. Bands sometimes don’t include themselves in
their album covers, this can make them seem more mysterious.
Facial expressions in album covers can also inform the listeners
of the type of music which would be in the album.

7. Recognizable logos
7
These are some bands which are easily
recognised by their logos. Each band has a
memorable font and design which makes
them able to be distinguished. This also
means that if the band produces merch,
people will represent the band, and this will
promote the band to people who see the
clothes.

ALBUM COVERS
Album covers are another way to
recognize a band/ individual. Some bands
choose to include themselves in their
covers, seen here from Beatles, blur and
Queen. This is so that people can see
each member of the band. Pretty velvet
and Red Remedy also chose to do this.
Like this, individual artists will do the same
thing. Madonna uses herself as the cover
in all her albums. However, bowie uses his
album covers to express each persona and
style he goes through. Some bands, like
Nirvana use their recognisable fonts and
logos instead of pictures of the band.
Others such as Pink Floyd and joy Division
don’t use any font or pictures of the bands,
they just relay on their fans recognising
their albums and iconic pictures.
9. Existing Media- Hey Brother-Avicii
9
This music video tells a story about a young boy spending time
with his older brother. Throughout the video there are flashes of
pictures from war, and war memorabilia. While watching the music
video, the viewer is under the impression that the brother is going
to leave for war. Near the middle of the video, there is a soldier
carrying a flag, which usually indicates that a soldier has passed
away, so the audience are led to believe the brother has passed. It
is revealed that it is in fact the boy’s dad that leaves for war and
unfortunately dies. By the end, the older brother is now a father
figure to the younger brother, and it explains why he was teaching
him things like fixing a motorcycle and squashing coins on the train
tracks. There is a transition which changes the brother into the
dad. In the comments, there is lots of soldiers saying that the video
made them emotional, which was clearly the idea. In the video the
colour scheme is very bland, I believe that this is so that the most
focused thing in the video is the storyline. I like how the camera
angles focused on the individuals in the video, instead of the
scenery, for me, this made me focus more on the characters body
language and visible feelings.
10. Existing Media- Titanium- sia
10
In this music video, it tells a story about a school boy
who has supernatural abilities. He recked the school
as he can not control his abilities. He gets chased by
the police and eventually gets seized by them. I
believe that this whole video is an extended
metaphor for not fitting in to society. The boy is
chased around with guns instead of someone trying
to help him. A comment stated “We are all different and
have our own struggles, but listening to this may remind
us that we are on the same root. We are living in an era
that is rapidly changing, and staying to our very roots
is the only way to survive.” which
displays the videos Intent perfectly.
I like how the camera follows the boy
and it doesn’t seem set up in a way.
11. Existing Media-Posters- Sex Pistols
11
This is a poster from 1996. The poster was made
to advertise ”Sex Pistols” upcoming show at
Finsbury Park. The poster included the location,
price and times of the show. This would have
been really useful to anyone who was interested
in going to the show as it gave them all the
information that they needed. As there was no, or
limited accessible social media at that time,
posters were the most common way of advertising
upcoming shows from bands. This meant that
they needed to be eye-catching, which is visible
on this poster. The pink and yellow really makes it
appealing to the eye, which meant that it was
probable that more people looked at it because of
this.
12. Existing Media- 50 worst decisions in
music history -Podcast
This is a podcast by “rolling stone music
now”. In the podcast they talk about
many mistakes in music. They talk about
things like Travis Scott’s disaster at his
concert Astro world. They also talked
about why it is important to consider the
dangers of things like crowds and what
makes a show good.

14. What the survey told me:
The survey told me that many of the people who completed it
have been to a gig before, this gave me the idea that they would
have found that the gigs were on from either social media or
posters.

17. Promotion on social media
17
………………………………………
…….………………………………...
Using social media to promote
a band can be very useful as it
means that the band can
receive more publicity. It can
be helpful to promote new
releases and upcoming gigs
so their followers are aware of
where and when they can
support them. As seen on both
bands Instagram pages, they
both have a recognisable font
they use, this is so that people
associate the band with this
logo.

23. Client Meeting
23
At the client meeting we discussed what
the band would like out of this. They told
us that they wanted to film a music video
with a white background inspired by artists
such as “stereocupid” and “Kelsy Karter”
this was helpful as we clearly understood
exactly what the client wanted, so it would
be easier to create something they would
be happy with.
