1. Erin boas: as you all are aware the 2018 sexual misconduct survey results have been published.
We are meeting with the gender equity coalition this week to discuss that and talk about the
content of the mass email and general ways we can collaborate moving forward. If anyone is
interested in attending this meeting or future ones, please let me know. As I reported last week,
vaccination rates are on the dashboard, this dashboard has a lot of great information on it, it also
has the in-term suspension details as well. We met with our auburn counterparts this past week
and talked about what their student government is like and their initiatives. I met with Noah
Robertson this week and we talked to Rutgers and other schools in the big 10. I met with lion
pride this week, we are going to be organizing a campus wide coming out celebration, this is
going to be on October 11th. Please also continue to sign up for the professional attire closet, they
need volunteers, this takes a lot of time and effort, so please help them out. Also please sign up
for RedZone action week tabling. It is really important as we pass legislation that we act
afterword’s, so please utilize tabling.
Anne Marie rounds-Sorenson: you mentioned the in-term suspensions, will those statistics be
reported on the dashboard?
Erin Boas: they had mentioned it in the meeting last night, but I will check on it further.
Najee Rodriguez: part in the board of trustees meeting this past Thursday and Friday whereas
formally introduced to my committee which is the committee on academic affairs research and
student life as a member and we're just given onboarding on the explanation of operating
guidelines and how to abide by those for our respective committees tomorrow September 23rd.
As mentioned, president boas and I met with our counterparts from Auburn, there was a lot of
mesh masks as well so that's nice from Alabama um I texted them wishing a safe flight back but
they did not respond to that so there was not southern hospitality in that texting, but it was nice,
during our meeting to hear what they are working on etc. I recently met with Leah Zimmerman
and her colleagues regarding the possibility of garnering ideas for an equity fund which of course
was really interesting, and I have a meeting with her next week to provide updates and hopefully
bring this up to the overall student feedback meeting eventually last Thursday I attended
distributed planning overview meeting with president pose I'll be focusing on DEI related
initiatives in terms of progress within strategic planning so that should be really exciting to shape
the next five years of Penn state's overall plan and like President Boas said a lot of what she has
said covered our meetings that we had together um so of course if you have any questions about
those feel free.
Special presentation from Latino Caucus: promoting the caucus, encouraging reps to come out to
the events being held and build relationships with people. Promoting advocation for the members
of the caucus and the issues in existence that need to be addressed and explaining the role UPUA
can have and should have in resolving these issues.
Najee Rodriguez: seeing no liaison or affiliate reports and no old business, we will move into a
five-minute caucus breakout. We will now start with line-item A, new business, the swearing in
of IFC rep Robert Miller. Congratulation Robert Miller.
2. Jordan Zaia: judicial board met this week and in 8-0-1 vote approved the PAC seat, under the
condition they change their constitution, once that is done, then it will be brought to the floor for
their confirmation. I also interviewed three of the clerk applicants and all have been given
positions. These applications are also still open and still rolling.
Sean Terrey: what was the constitutional change?
Jordan Zaia: they just have to add the position to their exec board, and that it must be changed to
elected and not applied for.
Sarah Jordan: please keep signing up for tabling, it is really important that we have someone
there all the time. We are also going to be conducting our justice and equity coordinator position,
the applications that aren’t filled are going to remain open and be rolling, it is on our website, as
they get filled, we will be taking them down from the website. Cabinet went really well, just
make sure you are talking to your exec directors, and if you aren’t sure who to talk to just talk to
me, I can direct you. Please be proactive, don’t ask for things last minute, it makes it hard on us.
If there are any issues with rooms or tabling just give me a call and I can fix it for you.
Sydney Gibbard: external events are due this Friday so Please remember to submit them I will
maybe potentially give you a day long extension because I have a very busy week and I won't be
able to text people reminders if they haven't submitted them so I'll probably be texting reminders
on like seven Saturday morning or something if you haven't submitted them and give you like
another 24 hours but please just try to get them in by Friday at 11:59 PM if you're still looking
for that form it is in the UK teams which you should all be added to under the opportunities and
external events channel and it's a tab at the top if you can't find it just text me and I will help you
find that an we are super excited about the Packer representative within UPA I think that Brian
crawls really excited about that as well and other peoples the performing Arts Council and once
Jordan kind of solidifies with them their election process I'll be working to on board them and
not just the representative themselves but also pack as a whole and like how we can work
together within you and if they have any initiatives would like to bring to you. Just to kind of
start there congratulations to Robert for becoming the new IFC representative we still have a few
more vacancies in nursing NPHC and I have talked to MGC and they're looking to fill their
representative seat nursing MPHC I know nursing said that they were going to be holding like an
info session a little bit about that so keep you updated about that and one thing that came up in
steering as we were talking a lot about productivity and committees and how like to structure
conversation about planning for events planning for programming so this past week I took some
time make like a little bit of a one sheeter for either a programming or initiative and so if you're
ever in like a committee or you're starting to talk to someone about I don't really know where to
begin with this initiative where do we even start it basically has some like guiding questions a
little bit of a checklist to complete and all the chairs have access to that now so you're ever
wondering how to access that it's also in the Google Drive and I think it's a really great way if
like you have an idea about something but you don't really know where that applies within UPA
it just gives you a good framework and background and like a place to kind of get all your
thoughts in one place did have a meeting with executive director of finance Tony McFarland
president Bose vice president Rodriguez chief of staff Jordan and the deputy director of finance
as well to discuss kind of legislation legislative communication with the executive branch
3. especially regarding the budget and finance I don't know if you all remember but at the very first
meeting they we pass a budget and a lot of people aren't necessarily educated about EPA
programming events at that time and so it's really hard to predict for the year how that money is
going to go but obviously we just had a big spend for the Wellness fund that came out of kind of
your discretionary which we usually doesn't make quote programming that doesn't originally go
into the budget uh and so now looking at it we're kind of thinking of ways to reallocate money
and potentially pass a new budget policy actually just adjusting it for the for the next few like the
next semester and the next few months so be on the lookout for that also one thing that will be
doing moving forward just so you're all aware of it after steering on Sundays when we pass bills
I'll be sending them to executive director finance Tony McFarland and she'll be reviewing them
in that kind of 24 hour gap before I send out the emails on Monday just to make sure that bills
aren't going kind of like extravagantly over what they were budgeted for and sometimes
obviously you can have reasons for that and money can be moved around but I just wanted you
all to be aware of reps like that will be happening I also want to be provided you all with some
more resources about the budget because I know some of you might not even know like stop has
a I don't know $12,500 budget and stuff like that so we're just going to be keeping that in mind
we will have a new smeal representative hopefully next week if not the week after that and other
than that if you have any questions feel free to reach out I’ll also be posting new external events
sometime this weekend for the next cycle so I’ll give you information about that if you have any
external events please send me like a graphic or a text about it and I will add them
Noah Robertson: I was wondering if/how you are going to be implementing attendance policy?
Sydney Gibbard: I try to give updates about the situations in steering to specific people, I do try
and reach out to those reps one on one and talk about it. Some people do have legitimate excuses
for why they have been absent, then there are other people who I have spoken to, and they are
comfortable stepping down, but it is not official yet. So, there is conversation about that.
Noah Robertson: we met on Monday about faculty senate, there wasn’t many people that
attended our committee meeting, so we discussed textbook affordability, and priorities for the
year, we also want to send a reminder to academic reps who have not attended faculty senate, it
is a university approved absence, so if you are having issues, please reach out to me or Lewis. I
now stand for anu questions.
Cara fliegel: we decided not have committee this last week because of lack of attendance, we are
going to be trying to change our time. Our next committee will be tomorrow at 5:30, before the
meeting please fill out the form I sent out. We are working right now on what to fix day, how to
inform people about that etc. if you have any ideas, please reach out to me!
Lakyn meeder: tomorrow we will have committee from 7-8. This is going to be an initiative
workshop and we will continue other discussions weve had. I met with former president zack
McKay, we had a conversation about psu voting and registration, we were supposed to table
tomorrow, that is canceled. It is not for only gov affairs so if anyone wants to do it, please do.
October 17th is the deadline for municipal election registrations.
4. Aarthi Kallur: tomorrow I will be meeting with the 320 coalition, after that we are in the process
of getting the racial justice roundtable together, I will send out more information as I get it.
Thank you for everyone who helped with the we care supply drive; I really appreciate it. Lastly,
we are in the process of restarting the women’s empowerment roundtable, so if you are
interested, please reach out to me. also, for committee please sign up for a 2 on 1 and fill out the
feedback form.
Samantha Browne: there has been a lack of tabling for RedZone action this week, I’m a little
upset with that. When you agree to be a part of this organization, you agree to act on these
things, while it is important to pass resolution, it is only half of it, the other have is stepping up to
do the work. With all this being said, I know this is our first programming week, but moving
forward let’s see some more participation with tabling. Thank you though to everyone who has
signed up and done tabling. Committee is at 4:30 in the HUB we didn’t have it this week because
of attendance.
Sarah Jordan: next week on the calendar it says 302 hubs, but it is not it is in here. Second, there
are a lot of boxes in the office, I will be going through them with the exec, if anyone wants to
help, please come! Lastly, I’m in life link PSU and we are looking for more volunteers, they are
very flexible, you get service hours if you need them. If you want more information, please come
speak to me!
Ryan loscalzo: drag show tomorrow at 8, $5, this is done by Penn state’s premier drag society.
Drag is when one takes on exaggerated features of one gender for comedic and dramatic effect.
Make sure you come out tomorrow night!
Erin Boas: just wanted to touch on attendance in the sense of task force and advisory boards.
These are placing that student have never really been able to sit on, so this is really important.
Make sure that we are attending, taking attendance seriously and these positions seriously.
Jason nelson: update on covid committee, we are going through the final parts of our first plan
and are hoping to put that into action. We are continuing to look for new members, so if you are
interested, please let me know.
Megan Neeley: college of arts and architecture is having an ice cream social this week; please
come you don’t have to be in the college to attend. If you have any ideas for the women’s
empowerment roundtable, please let me know.
Dia Bhatia: there will be a Henna night this week, so please come!
Najee Rodriguez: the chair during modern rules can yield time. There will be a date change to
the relax with a rep. I wanted to say that I went to the Hispanic heritage month night of
remembrance event, which was really nice. I want to emphasize that the training should not be an
excuse, because members and leaders of these organizations take note of whose there and they
want people there, so it’s important we show up. President boas and I will be having our
biweekly meeting with the multicultural caucuses this week, which allows us to have
5. communication with them but it’s important that you all attend events as well, so we don’t fall
back to the past that we once were.
Jeanelle Loiseau: thank you to everyone who sent out the flyer. I do want to emphasize what
Najee said about attendance of these caucus events, I challenge everyone in the next month to
attend these events so we can represent our community entirely, and this means with everyone’s
help. I really hope that you attend the black caucus event taking place at the end of the month, if
you want more information about what it is, reach out to me, I would love to educate you on it.
