INTRODUCTION
A gradual increase in the overall tempera ture of the earth’s atmosphere
generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels
of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbon (CPC), and other pollutants.
It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has
far reaching impact on biodiversity and climatic conditions of the planet.
Several current trends clearly demonstrate the global warming is directly
impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant
worldwide climate changes. In short, global warming represents
fundamental threat to all living things on earth. Thus, an action should
be take to reduce global warming effect such as reduce carbon dioxide
emission, managing forest and agriculture and implemention of law.
5
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING ?
Global Warming means the rise in the Global temperature. The primary
cause for Global Warming to release poisonous gases to our environment
and destroying forests from which we cannot get enough oxygen so that
is why carbon dioxide is increasing in the environment which traps more
sunlight and drives up the planet’s temperature causing the glaciers to
melt, rise in the sea level and forests to dry etc. These are the reasons
why we say the humans are major cause for the Global Warming.
6
GREEN HOUSE EFFECT :-
“The greenhouse effect” is the Warming of climate that results when the
atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in
the atmosphere resemble glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunlight to pass
into the “greenhouse”, but blocking Earth’s heat from escaping into space.
A stronger greenhouse effect will probably warm the oceans and partially
melt glaciers and other ice, increasing sea level. Ocean water also will
expand if it warms, contributing to further sea level rise.
7
8
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING:-
•Man Made causes of Global warming:-
•DEFORESTATION :-
Plants are the main source of oxygen. They take in carbon dioxide and
release oxygen thereby maintaining environmental balance. Forests are
being depleted for many domestic purposes. This has led to an
environmental imbalance, thereby giving rise to global Warmig.
•USES OF VEHICLES :-
The uses of Vehicles, even for a very short distance results in various
gaseous emissions.vehicles burn fossil fuels which emit a large amount of
carbon dioxide and other toxins into the atmosphere resulting in a
temperature increase.
9
•AGRICULTURE :-
Various farming activities produce. Carbon dioxide and methane gas.
These add to the green house gases in the atmosphere and increase the
temperature of the earth.
•OVERPOPULATION :-
Increase in population means more people breathing. This leads to an
increase in the level of carbon dioxide, the primary gas causing global
warming, in the atmosphere.
10
 Natural causes of Global warming:-
•VOLCANOES:-
Volcanoes are one of the largest natural contributors to global warming.
The ash and Smoke emitted during volcanic eruptions goes out into the
atmosphere and affects the climate.
WATER VAPOUR:-
Water Vapour is a kind of greenhouse gas. Due to the increase in the
earth’s temperature more water gets evaporated from the Water bodies
and stays in the atmosphere adding to global Warming.
•FOREST BLAZES:-
Forest blazes or forest fires emit a large amount of carbon-containing
smoke. These gases, are released into the atmosphere and increase the
earth’s temperature resulting in Global Warming.
11
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING:-
THE MAJOR EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING:-
•RISE IN TEMPERATURE:-
Global Warming has led to an incredible increase in earth’s temperature. Since 1880,
the earth’s temperature has increased by ~1 degrees. This has resulted in an increase in
the melting of glaciers, which have led to an increase in the sea level. This could have
devastating effects on coastal regions.
•THREATS TO THE ECOSYSTEM:-
Global Warming has affected the coral reefs that can lead to a loss of plant and animal
lives. Increase in global temperatures has made the fragility of coral reefs even worse.
•CLIMATE CHANGE:-
Global Warming has led to a change in climatic conditions. There are droughts at
some places and floods at some. This climatic imbalance is the result of Global
warming.
12
•SPREAD OF DISEASES:-
Global Warming leads to a change in the patterns of heat and humidity.
This has led to the movement of mosquitoes that carry and Spread
diseases.
•HIGH MORTALITY RATE:-
Due to an increase in floods, tsunamis and other natural calamities, the
average death toll usually increases. Also, such events can bring about
the spread of diseases that can hamper human life.
•LOSS OF NATURAL HABITAT:-
A global shift in the climate leads to the loss of habitats of several plants
and animals. In this case, the animals need to migrate from their.
13
IMPACTS OF GLOBAL WARMING ON
INDIA:-
There has been a particularly alarming effect of the global warming on
the climate of India. India is a disaster prone area, with the statisties of
the 27 out of 35 states being disaster prone, with floods being the most
frequent disasters. The process of global Warming has led to an
increase in the frequency and intensity of these climatic disasters.
According to surveys, in the year 2007-2008, India ranked the third
highest in the world regarding the number of significant disasters, with
18 such events in one year, resulting in the death of 1103 people due to
these catastrophes.
The anticipated increase in precipitation, the melting of glaciers
and expanding seas have the power to influence the Indian climate
negatively with an increase in incidence of floods and storms.
14
•FLOODS IN INDIA:-
India is the most flood distressed state in the world after Bangladesh,
accounting for 1/5th of the global deaths. Every year with 30 million
people displaced from their homes yearly. Approximately 40 million
hectares of the land is Vulnerable to floods, with 8 million heactares
affected by it. The most Vulnerable flood prone states of India are Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Orrisa, Punjab Jammu &
Kashmir.
•DROUGHTS:-
Droughts of the total agricultural land in India, about 68% is prone to
drought of which 33% is chronically drought prone, receiving rainfall of
less than 750mm per year. This is particularly the states of Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and orissa. The world
Record for drought was in 2000 in Rajasthan, India.According to
researches, global warming will lead to exacerbation of the droughts,
cutting down the water availability in the plains of Andhra Pradesh and
15
•CYCLONE :-
As a result of global warming, the average no. Of category 4 and 5
per year hurricanes has increased over the past 30 years. India is
very susceptible to cyclonic activity. Cyclones have been observed to
be more frequent in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian sea.
Consequently the states of West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh
and Tamil Nadu along the Bay of Bengal are the most affected. The
notable cyclone in Indian history include the 1737 calcutta cyclone,
1970 Bhola cyclone and cyclone 058,which affected more than a
million people.
16
HOW CAN WE STOP GLOBAL WARMING :-
The heat-trapping greenhouse gases are increasing, global temperature is rising,
planet is warming, the glaciers are melting and the sea level is rising. We need to
implement Ways to stop global warming and protect the planet.some are :-
•RECYLE MORE :-
The aim is to cut down the amount of carbon dioxide released in the
environment. If you even recycle half of the waste produced at home, you can
save up to 2000 pounds of CO₂ every year.
•DRIVE LESS:-
Air pollution is one of the major factors that lead to an increase in greenhouse
gases. Minimise the Use of cars and make use of public transportation. Try
Walking, biking or carpooling whenever possible.
17
•SWITCH TO RENEWABLE ENERGY:-
One of the most effective Ways to prevent global warming is to
start Using renewable energy sources such as solar,
geothermal wind and stop using fossil fuels.
•USE LESS HOT WATER :-
You can Save 500 pounds of CO2 per year if you switch to cold
Showers and stop using hot water to wash clothes. Try
installing energy efficient geysers that Consume less energy.
•TURN OFF ELECTRONIC DEVICES:-
Ensure turning off your electronic devices such as television,
18
•PLANT TREES:-
Deforestation plays an important role in global Warming. Planting trees
is helpful as they absorb Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and
regulate the climate.

It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has far reaching impact on biodiversity and climatic conditions of the planet. Several current trends clearly demonstrate the global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. In short, global warming represents fundamental threat to all living things on earth. Thus, an action should be take to reduce global warming effect such as reduce carbon dioxide emission, managing forest and agriculture and implemention of law. 5
  • 7. WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING ? Global Warming means the rise in the Global temperature. The primary cause for Global Warming to release poisonous gases to our environment and destroying forests from which we cannot get enough oxygen so that is why carbon dioxide is increasing in the environment which traps more sunlight and drives up the planet’s temperature causing the glaciers to melt, rise in the sea level and forests to dry etc. These are the reasons why we say the humans are major cause for the Global Warming. 6
  • 8. GREEN HOUSE EFFECT :- “The greenhouse effect” is the Warming of climate that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in the atmosphere resemble glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunlight to pass into the “greenhouse”, but blocking Earth’s heat from escaping into space. A stronger greenhouse effect will probably warm the oceans and partially melt glaciers and other ice, increasing sea level. Ocean water also will expand if it warms, contributing to further sea level rise. 7

  • 10. CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING:- •Man Made causes of Global warming:- •DEFORESTATION :- Plants are the main source of oxygen. They take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen thereby maintaining environmental balance. Forests are being depleted for many domestic purposes. This has led to an environmental imbalance, thereby giving rise to global Warmig. •USES OF VEHICLES :- The uses of Vehicles, even for a very short distance results in various gaseous emissions.vehicles burn fossil fuels which emit a large amount of carbon dioxide and other toxins into the atmosphere resulting in a temperature increase. 9
  • 11. •AGRICULTURE :- Various farming activities produce. Carbon dioxide and methane gas. These add to the green house gases in the atmosphere and increase the temperature of the earth. •OVERPOPULATION :- Increase in population means more people breathing. This leads to an increase in the level of carbon dioxide, the primary gas causing global warming, in the atmosphere. 10
  • 12.  Natural causes of Global warming:- •VOLCANOES:- Volcanoes are one of the largest natural contributors to global warming. The ash and Smoke emitted during volcanic eruptions goes out into the atmosphere and affects the climate. WATER VAPOUR:- Water Vapour is a kind of greenhouse gas. Due to the increase in the earth’s temperature more water gets evaporated from the Water bodies and stays in the atmosphere adding to global Warming. •FOREST BLAZES:- Forest blazes or forest fires emit a large amount of carbon-containing smoke. These gases, are released into the atmosphere and increase the earth’s temperature resulting in Global Warming. 11
  • 13. EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING:- THE MAJOR EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING:- •RISE IN TEMPERATURE:- Global Warming has led to an incredible increase in earth’s temperature. Since 1880, the earth’s temperature has increased by ~1 degrees. This has resulted in an increase in the melting of glaciers, which have led to an increase in the sea level. This could have devastating effects on coastal regions. •THREATS TO THE ECOSYSTEM:- Global Warming has affected the coral reefs that can lead to a loss of plant and animal lives. Increase in global temperatures has made the fragility of coral reefs even worse. •CLIMATE CHANGE:- Global Warming has led to a change in climatic conditions. There are droughts at some places and floods at some. This climatic imbalance is the result of Global warming. 12
  • 14. •SPREAD OF DISEASES:- Global Warming leads to a change in the patterns of heat and humidity. This has led to the movement of mosquitoes that carry and Spread diseases. •HIGH MORTALITY RATE:- Due to an increase in floods, tsunamis and other natural calamities, the average death toll usually increases. Also, such events can bring about the spread of diseases that can hamper human life. •LOSS OF NATURAL HABITAT:- A global shift in the climate leads to the loss of habitats of several plants and animals. In this case, the animals need to migrate from their. 13
  • 15. IMPACTS OF GLOBAL WARMING ON INDIA:- There has been a particularly alarming effect of the global warming on the climate of India. India is a disaster prone area, with the statisties of the 27 out of 35 states being disaster prone, with floods being the most frequent disasters. The process of global Warming has led to an increase in the frequency and intensity of these climatic disasters. According to surveys, in the year 2007-2008, India ranked the third highest in the world regarding the number of significant disasters, with 18 such events in one year, resulting in the death of 1103 people due to these catastrophes. The anticipated increase in precipitation, the melting of glaciers and expanding seas have the power to influence the Indian climate negatively with an increase in incidence of floods and storms. 14
  • 16. •FLOODS IN INDIA:- India is the most flood distressed state in the world after Bangladesh, accounting for 1/5th of the global deaths. Every year with 30 million people displaced from their homes yearly. Approximately 40 million hectares of the land is Vulnerable to floods, with 8 million heactares affected by it. The most Vulnerable flood prone states of India are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Orrisa, Punjab Jammu & Kashmir. •DROUGHTS:- Droughts of the total agricultural land in India, about 68% is prone to drought of which 33% is chronically drought prone, receiving rainfall of less than 750mm per year. This is particularly the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and orissa. The world Record for drought was in 2000 in Rajasthan, India.According to researches, global warming will lead to exacerbation of the droughts, cutting down the water availability in the plains of Andhra Pradesh and 15
  • 17. •CYCLONE :- As a result of global warming, the average no. Of category 4 and 5 per year hurricanes has increased over the past 30 years. India is very susceptible to cyclonic activity. Cyclones have been observed to be more frequent in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian sea. Consequently the states of West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu along the Bay of Bengal are the most affected. The notable cyclone in Indian history include the 1737 calcutta cyclone, 1970 Bhola cyclone and cyclone 058,which affected more than a million people. 16
  • 18. HOW CAN WE STOP GLOBAL WARMING :- The heat-trapping greenhouse gases are increasing, global temperature is rising, planet is warming, the glaciers are melting and the sea level is rising. We need to implement Ways to stop global warming and protect the planet.some are :- •RECYLE MORE :- The aim is to cut down the amount of carbon dioxide released in the environment. If you even recycle half of the waste produced at home, you can save up to 2000 pounds of CO₂ every year. •DRIVE LESS:- Air pollution is one of the major factors that lead to an increase in greenhouse gases. Minimise the Use of cars and make use of public transportation. Try Walking, biking or carpooling whenever possible. 17
  • 19. •SWITCH TO RENEWABLE ENERGY:- One of the most effective Ways to prevent global warming is to start Using renewable energy sources such as solar, geothermal wind and stop using fossil fuels. •USE LESS HOT WATER :- You can Save 500 pounds of CO2 per year if you switch to cold Showers and stop using hot water to wash clothes. Try installing energy efficient geysers that Consume less energy. •TURN OFF ELECTRONIC DEVICES:- Ensure turning off your electronic devices such as television, 18
  • 20. •PLANT TREES:- Deforestation plays an important role in global Warming. Planting trees is helpful as they absorb Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and regulate the climate. 19
