 Yahoo was the original guide to the Internet,
connecting users with their passions and
helping them to discover the mystery and
promise of the World Wide Web.
 Marissa Mayer, a former Google executive,
serves as CEO and President of the company.
 In an unidentified marketplace, Yahoo’s
strategy was to have no strategy, to began
with
 It recruited “out-of-the-box” thinking
employees
 The essence was to create new market, new
products, new industries - being futuristic in
real sense
 Products were launched quietly - without
much fanfare
Verizon Communications, Inc., is an American
broadband telecommunications company and
the largest U.S. wireless communications
service provider, and a corporate component
of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Founded in 1983 as Bell Atlantic
Revenue: 131.6 Billion USD
 US telecom giant Verizon Communications has
bought Yahoo's search and advertising
operations for $4.83 billion on 25th July,2016.
 This marks an end of Yahoo!.
 In past, many companies tried to acquire yahoo
but yahoo refused.
 On of them was Microsoft, who made an
unsolicited bid to acquire Yahoo for US$44.6
billion in 2008.
 Yahoo facing a identity crisis
1. Yahoo never had the same kind of obsessive
focus on recruiting technical talent.
2. Yahoo created technology products that
people use and media properties that have
an audience, but its attempt to be a
technology company and a media company
simultaneously resulted in an organization
that was less than the sum of its parts.
 Yahoo's core business seemed to be worth less
than nothing
1. Yahoo's media and tech businesses were
overshadowed by a third line of business:
venture capital.
2. Yahoo invested $1 Billion in AliBaba and had
around 35% stake in Yahoo Japan.
 From then, it was trying to revive its business.
 For this, it changed it CEOs several times but no
one can helped Yahoo!.
 At last, Yahoo had to sell its core online assets
to VERIZON for $4.83 Billion.
 The US telecoms giant is expected to merge Yahoo
with AOL, to create a digital group capable of taking
on the likes of Google and Face book.
 Verizon bought AOL last year for US$4.4 Billion.
 Verizon is in a process of building a portfolio of
online content.
 Yahoo will change the name and become publicly
traded investment company.
 This deal helps Verizon to expand its market and it
attracts all the loyal customers to Verizon.
This deal marks the entry of Verizon in Internet &
Computer Software Industry.
Therefore, rather to diversify their products,
Verizon decided to acquire the same kind of co.
so as to explore themselves in particular segment
and gets a strong customer perception towards
itself.
 Verizon focuses on:
S- Product based marketing strategy including
(benefit segment and quantity consumed)
T- single segment concentration targeting
P- user positioning

  • 2.  Founded in 1994 by two Stanford PhD candidates, Jerry Yang and David Filo  Yahoo was the original guide to the Internet, connecting users with their passions and helping them to discover the mystery and promise of the World Wide Web.  Marissa Mayer, a former Google executive, serves as CEO and President of the company.

Yahoo created technology products that people use and media properties that have an audience, but its attempt to be a technology company and a media company simultaneously resulted in an organization that was less than the sum of its parts.

Yahoo invested $1 Billion in AliBaba and had around 35% stake in Yahoo Japan.  From then, it was trying to revive its business.  For this, it changed it CEOs several times but no one can helped Yahoo!.  At last, Yahoo had to sell its core online assets to VERIZON for $4.83 Billion.
  • 10.  The US telecoms giant is expected to merge Yahoo with AOL, to create a digital group capable of taking on the likes of Google and Face book.  Verizon bought AOL last year for US$4.4 Billion.  Verizon is in a process of building a portfolio of online content.  Yahoo will change the name and become publicly traded investment company.  This deal helps Verizon to expand its market and it attracts all the loyal customers to Verizon.
