used to fill the housing and the

Re-greasing while operating Dodge Bearing could be re-
greased while the bearing was in
operation. The old grease was
seen purging.
Although provision for grease
nipple was there, no grease
outlet was available.
Protection from Dust The Bearing assembly came
factory assembled and sealed.
Hence no possibility of any dust
particles
The Bearing as well as the
Housing and the Grease were
exposed to the dusty
atmosphere and there is a
100% likelihood of dust
entering the bearing and the
housings.
Temperature testing by hand

The Dodge Bearing was seen to
run hotter as compared to the
SN housing.
The SN housing was cooler as
compared to the Dodge ISN

The customer was pretty satisfied with the performance of the ISN Bearing and since they could not stop the
machine and dismantle the bearings, it was decided that the Bearings would be run and their performance
monitored.

19. Conclusion
• It is pretty evident that the Dodge ISN Unitized Pillow Block envisages
some unique features and benefits which far out weighs the performance
of the standard SN Housings.
• Be it the ease of Mounting & dis-mounting along with the on-line re-
greasing facility that it has ensures that the equipment on which it runs
will be operating with very less or minimal downtime, thus improving
productivity of the entire plant.
• The unique adaptor – Locknut arrangement ensures that the very
cumbersome and time-consuming process of setting the clearances of the
Bearing can be taken care by the number of turns that the lock-nut is
subjected to.
• Last but not the least, in Bearing Industry there is a very famous parlance
that “Seals Sells Bearings” which means that the Seals play a very
major role in improving the life of the Bearing assembly. The 2 types of
Seals of ISN (Contact and Labyrinth) ensures that the Bearings can be
used for any type of tough operating condition.

the reliability & performance of the equipment / Bearings by reducing the
maintenance time and installation time but also ensures that the overall
