6. Quotes
• “The Premier League Reading Stars scheme has had a very
positive impact on the group of pupils we targeted. The data
impact has been measurable and this was highlighted by our
recent OFSTED report. It was a fine example of a high impact
intervention which was recognised and applauded by the
inspectors.”

Editor's Notes
Delivers statutory requirements of the new national curriculum.
The programme is built on evidence that footballers influence the way young people view reading.
PLRS helps to narrow the gap between those who are reading at the expected level for their age and those who are underachieving.
This can be due to a low motivation to read, negative attitudes, or a lack of confidence; and often a combination of all three.
Particularly among boys and those on free school meals.
We ask practitioners to select participants based upon greatest need.
Y5 and 6 who are struggling to reach expected levels of literacy and are in danger of falling behind.
In secondary aimed at Y7 and 8 who did not reach Level 4b in reading at the end of KS2.
Those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and boys are often selected.
3 out of 4 participants felt that, having taken part in Premier League Reading Stars, they could find titles that were of interest to them, and at the right level.
