Objective
Seeking a position as a GIS Analyst
Highlights of qualifications
 6 months of experience as a Cartographer using Esri products such as ArcGIS, 3D
Analyst, linear referencing, least cost path analysis, network analysis, and choropleth
mapping. Familiar with tools, modules, and python to streamline time spend on spacial
analysis. Used raw data to create maps to solve problems such as city planning solutions.
 3 months of experience with SQL database design with proficiency with table creation,
inner and outer joins, primary keys, foreign keys, database diagrams, and querying
DBMS.
 4+ years of experience as Coast Guard unit map/chart expert (electronic vector, electronic
raster, and paper charts). Prepared harbor charts for 35 ports, and briefed ship’s captain
and crew on chart information and navigational hazards before each harbor transit.
Excelled in use of map layers to ensure safe passages.
 Active US government security clearance (2008-present).
 Aids to Navigation (ATON) positioner legally responsible for exact position of harbor
buoy and navigation structure placement within buoy swing circle. Used Differential
Global Positioning System aboard 225 buoy tender and portable DGPS and GAPPS jump
kits aboard 25’ small boat. Familiar with both WGS 84 and NAD 83 datums. This public
service ensured the safety of all mariners including important assets such as submarines,
aircraft carriers and fuel tankers to transit to and from over 20 harbors in the Hawaiian
and Samoan Islands (2009-2012).
 Familiar with advanced navigation components to plot ship’s positon including normal
DGPS, Electronic Precise Integrated Navigation System (ECPINS),Scalable Integrated
Navigation System (SINS), triangulation based visual bearings of fixed land structures
using alidades, radar range feedback of established points of land, and celestial
navigation.
 Experienced 25-foot small boat captain and operator who’s responsibilities included: the
safely of a 12 person crew, the accurate navigation of the boat (a $250,000 Coast Guard
Asset), and the completion of various missions which included Aids to Navigation
maintenance, Law Enforcement, and Search and Rescue missions (2011-2012). Piloted
the small boat alongside large vessels in critical law enforcement situations in up to 15
foot pacific seas. Trained crew members on small boat piloting and navigation.
Experience
 Recognized with letter of commendation for stamina and adaptability for the preparation
of over 1,200 paper chart corrections in less than one week to prepare for a last-minute
trip to the Gulf of Mexico (2010).
 Navigated a 225-foot vessel to precise locations for 6 months in a oil-spill cleanup effort
for Deepwater Horizon Response in Gulf of Mexico. Tracked GPS locations of oil slicks
and navigated the vessel which resulted in the skimming of over 100,000 gallons of oil
out of the Gulf of Mexico. Planned and arranged all sea-going vessel movements for
disaster response (2011).
 Received second letter of commendation for role in providing humanitarian aid to
drought-stricken nation of Tokelau. (2011). Made over 20 trips via small boat delivering
water into unmaintained channel only 2 feet deep. Government of New Zealand gave
ship special recognition for our efforts in the examination of Tokelau’s water retention
needs. Made a second visit in 2012 to provide additional infrastructure for water retention
needs including new tanks, pipes, rainfall catchers, and purification systems.
 Piloted 225-foot boat with an 18-foot draft though the Panama Canal, PearlHarbor, and
other large ports using electronic chart navigation skills.
 Supervised various training exercises for over 15 personnel to reach and maintain peak
performance levels in navigation skills, paper chart plotting, buoy positioning, and
electronic chart manipulation.
 Maintained pool chemistry by calibrating and programming the BECs
 Worked under pressure,multi-tasked, and met tight deadlines on a day-today basis.
Education
 Associates of Arts in Computer Science from South Seattle College (2012-2015)
 Green River Community College – Geographic Information Systems (2012)
 Certificate from Coast Guard Integrated Ship Control System: Operation and Navigation
School with course in Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System (2010).
 Graduate from National Aids to Navigation School in Yorktown, VA with certificates in
Positioning and Minor Aids Maintenance. (2010)
Employment History
 City of Seattle: Pool Operator and PPT Lifeguard (2012-present)
 United States Coast Guard: Boatswain’s Mate (navigation specialty) (2008-2012)
 City of Boulder, CO: Lifeguard Manager (2006-2008)
