Mission
Our mission is to provide the most
affordable quality sorting and inspection
services to the required standards as set out
in the automotive industry. We strive to
achieve 100% customer satisfaction and
always have the customers goals in mind.
To ensure the highest standard of product
reaches your customer to uphold our
customer’s reputation.
Why use AQSS (Pty) Ltd. ?
– Ideal conditions would dictate that sorting actions
do not take place, but with today’s fast-paced
production environment, small changes can lead to
major quality problems such as rejects or product
that requires reworking. Companies do not have the
time to focus on the extra activities required to
prevent a 100% defect free product from reaching
their customers as they mainly aim to achieve
production goals. We are the final “safety net” that
ensures that no defective material is shipped to the
final customer.
– Being independent has the following advantages:
• We are free from intimidation, “go-slow”actions or
pressures of attaining production targets. Customer
satisfaction and product quality is the goal.
• We, as an independent company, focus on the standards
required for the final product as required by the customer
and are not biased.
• We ensure rapid response times to assist you inside your
company or at your customer to minimise cost and loss of
reputation.
• We can pro-actively identify problem areas that cause
non-conformances, like operators, sorters, inspectors,
machines, or processes.
Why use AQSS (Pty) Ltd. ?
• We understand the first world demands that are placed on
third world countries , sometimes even higher than on first
world suppliers, and our people are trained to work
efficiently and cost effectively.
• Having been in the Automotive Industry since 1990 we
have understanding of the extreme demanding conditions
to supply product, defect free and on time. We have
shaped our inspection to be in line with these demands.
• We are currently focussing in automotive leather sorting,
but our services can be adapted to suit any product.
• Being a German speaking South African, living in South
Africa for 41 years, I can liaise with German OEM’s
directly in their mother tongue to resolve concerns
effectively.
Why use AQSS (Pty) Ltd. ?
– Further advantages of using African Automotive

with all requirements of production pressures.
– Potential problems can be avoided by using our launch support
service. We can do inspection sorts as well as receiving
inspections at your customer or supplier if arranged.
– Material will be uniquely identified and certified.
– We can place representation at your customer or supplier to ensure
that the information gathered during the launch can be used pro-
actively to prevent any problems from hampering the launch.
– When concerns arise ,the liaison can resolve any non-
conformances in close co-operation with your customer or supplier
to ensure a smooth launch.
Leather specialist support
• Management has been in the Automotive leather industry
since 1990, having worked in the tannery, laboratory,
quality and management environments.
– Management have worked with all major OEM’s in Europe and
have a good repertoire with them.
– Management have worked with most local Sewing manufacturers
and know most of the sewing processes and how they influence
leather quality.
– Management have worked in three SA tanneries and understand all
processes involved extensively as well as the influences on quality
by all processes.
– Management have extensive quality training and understand the
complete quality systems ISO TS16949, ISO 9000:2000 etc.
Quality support
• Having spent the last 10 years as quality manager, we
understand all quality principles and how to apply them.
– Problem solving is the key to prevent future concerns.
– Ensuring that FMEA’s are prepared properly will facilitate
effective and smooth launches.
– Internal auditing as an outsider ensures that there are no biased
opinions and highlights areas that can be improved.
– Corrective actions can be initiated and followed up effectively, as
they are usually neglected due to time constraints and availability
of personnel.
– Implementation of ISO9000:2000 quality systems.
– Support with IMDS system i.e. material safety data sheets .
Rework support
• Reworking of material during a sorting action can save
time as well as lower costs
– Whenever possible, reworking of parts can be undertaken if so
required by our customer. The only pre-requisite is that our
personnel be trained for this specific purpose.
– During sorting material that is rejected can be replaced and thus
make up good material. Saving cost on transportation and
rejections.
Customer Liaison services
• Having your finger on the pulse at your customer or
supplier is the key to less quality concerns.
– When launching a product or just generally during production it is
always advantageous to have a customer liaison available at your
supplier or customer.
– This does not have to be a full-time function, but regular customer
or supplier visits by us can lower your travelling costs, especially
if you are located in Europe, the US or Asia.
– We can provide this service in Africa for you.
OverviewOverview
• With lean manufacturing and high production and
quality expectations these days a lot of companies are
overextending their quality personnel, which leads to
less focus applied to more problems.
• Speciality Leather and Automotive seat components
FeaturesFeatures & Benefits
• Internal Audits
– Outside auditing for internal audits is acceptable to registrars,
as long as the companies documentation is used and the
Auditor is a qualified internal auditor for the specific
company.
• Problem solving
– Companies have all the tools, and resources to perform
problem solving, but usually only implement quick fixes and
not preventive fixes are applied.
– This comes from time constraints and biased opinions during
problem solving and not in-depth root cause investigations.
FeaturesFeatures & Benefits
• Sorting
– Ideal conditions would dictate that sorting actions do not take
place, but nowadays the production pressures are such that
suppliers sort on customer premises. (generally keeping their
own interests at heart)
– Containment actions: using the same personnel that caused the
problem in the first place leads to production constraints and
overtime for personnel. (Will they prevent problems?)
FeaturesFeatures & Benefits
• Leather Specialist
– being a qualified leather technician and having grown within
the automotive leather industry, I have extensive knowledge
of the product and good working relationships with most of
the OEM’s and second tier supplier’s quality personnel.
• General Specialities
– Datacolor, Chroma calc and Colortools software programming
– IMDS implementation on-line
FeaturesFeatures & Benefits
ApplicationsApplications
• Auditing
– being an qualified Lead Auditor for ISO TS 16949:2002 and
only requiring an internal auditor training session with your
company, I can assist in completing those outstanding audits
and following up on any corrective actions.
– Being an outsider can also have a different view on the system
leading to continuous improvement
• Problem solving
– having been in the industry for 15 years I have noticed, that
although all companies have the best problem solving
techniques they are rarely applied correctly.
– Constraints : time, production pressures, availability of team
members, personnel having pre-conceived solutions (quick
fixes), follow up of corrective actions after implementation.
ApplicationsApplications
• Sorting
– Due to production pressures material that was supplied just in
time, but that does not comply to certain quality standards,
ends up being sorted by the supplier on site at the customer.
– Having been part of those type of actions experience tells me
that suppliers are biased to their products and will still take
chances, leading to failures that reflect badly on the customer.
– External sorters are unbiased and will have the interest of the
party that employs them at heart.
ApplicationsApplications
• Sorting (cont.)
– Critical to sorts are the proper specifications and visual
samples.
– Reports created are not number crunching exercises that make
the concerns look smaller than they are.
– We try to employ personnel from local communities that have
previous experience, otherwise they are trained to the
standards required.
– Independent containment sorts highlight the concerns in-
house as to where problems are coming from and highlight
them.
ApplicationsApplications
ReportsReports
• Reports are detailed to include analysis of Top 5
defects Pareto, Top 5 inspector concerns, Top concern
per product range.
• Reports can be adapted to customer specific needs
• Daily feedback reports are available to give short
reaction times.
SpecificationsSpecifications
• All work performed will be according to your
companies procedures and specifications to ensure that
the best is delivered.
• Specifications and procedures should be introduced to
our personnel as induction training to ensure your aims
and goals are the ones we strive for as well.
PricingPricing
• Pricing is dependant on the service required and will
be based on hourly rates for Quality engineer or
auditing functions.
• Sorting functions are dependant on type of sort,
amount of personnel and product involved. Pricing can
be at hourly or per piece rate.
• Pricing will vary and can be negotiable.
• Client will be billed for flight and travel costs, if
required.
• Pricing (cont.)
– The client will be billed for sorting actions directly, they
should recover these costs from their suppliers.
– Sorting cost can be agreed between supplier and customer and
arrangements can be made for special pricing
PricingPricing
AvailabilityAvailability
• Sorting actions will require time to prepare as
personnel is on standby, but needs to be contacted and
prepared.
