I had the pleasure to work closely with Andrell Hutton, a human resources consultant
working with the Lone Star College System for several months last year. Andrell was
assigned to work with the Corporate College and Workforce divisions which together
employ over 100 staff and faculty. I was immediately impressed that Andrell routinely takes
the time to know faculty and staff but then moves quickly to resolve problems and teach
behaviors that create a work environment based on cooperation, creative problem solving,
and both individual and team accountability. The result is a boost in confidence and positive
energy that translates directly into workplace success.
A particular incident where Andrell was at her best involved a coordinator, who despite
being overwhelmed, was reluctant to accept help from a new supervisor and the supervisor
who, while highly skilled, lacked both patience and empathy. After Andrell spent time
working with each one, the two began to build trust and worked together to turn a group of
unhappy faculty into a supportive team.
The seven months I worked with Andrell Hutton were intense and very positive. She truly
brings out the best in people.
