Almost all relationships and families face difficult times and experience conflicts.
Signs of family and relationships problems include: frequent arguing, disagreements,
no or poor communication, anger and physical conflict
CAUSES
New baby, children becoming teenagers,
divorce, blending families,
unemployment, moving house,
retirement, ageing, illness, financial
problems, stress, issues related to
sexuality, alcohol or drugs abuse,
gambling problems, bullying, natural
disasters, death of a family member, lack
of trust or respect in a relationship.

EFFECTS
Negative emotions ( anger, sadness,
depression, anxiety), stress, feeling
isolated, difficulties in eating and in
sleeping properly, difficulties in
concentrating at school or work, not
enjoying normal activities or hobbies,
problems in other personal friendships (
friends, colleagues, boss) using
substances to escape from the situation.

Family and relationships problems
Family is the core of the society and the source of love and support for each one
of the members. Conflicts are a part of the family life, but love, will and energy
will help to solve them and strength it.
6. The role of family in child development
Family will be responsible for shaping a child development in the areas such as: values, skills,
socialization and security.
Family plays an outstanding role in the child development. Parents should assume this great
responsibility thinking that when they provide values, help children to develop cognitive,
social and emotional skills, promote significant socialization processes and giving them
security. Then, children will be able to build the rest of inputs from school and community in
a manner that can enhance their principles and ethics during their lifetime.

Positive family conversations around learning, the parents’ genuine interest in their children
learning and the family support for their educational progress will have a positive effect on

8. School and work
The right to education for children and adolescents around the world and in our
country is determined in constitutions and in the principles and goals set in the
international agreements.
Child and adolescent labor means that they have an employment in any work that
deprives children and adolescents of their own normal development
processes; that it does not permit they go to school regularly, and that is mentally,
physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful.
In Ecuador, education in public sector is free; however, some students do not have
access to education because they have to pay uniforms, books, transportation and
lunch. This is more noticeable in indigenous children group who abandon schools
early. In fact, they do not attend to secondary schools so they work.
9. How labor affects the learning achievement?
Child labor is the practice of having children engaged in economic activities that
deprive children of their childhood and is harmful to their physical and mental
development.
To have a positive learning development, each individual needs an adequate environment
that permits to develop their talents, skills and attitudes and it is according to the context
and student’s needs. When students have to work at the same time, in most of the cases,
they will have a low academic performance.
In terms of studying and working at the same time in high school, a phenomenon occurs in most
of countries of Latin-American nowadays.
When students cannot manage these two activities at the same time, they prefer their jobs instead
of school.

10. Childhood and adolescence are periods of human development to be enjoyable. Children
and adolescents need to do physical activity and play sports to have fun, make friends and
learning something new, which help them to have a healthy grow and development.
Most of children and adolescents that have to work and study
simultaneously face health and behavior problems and eventually they drop
out of school.
