1. Outlining the layout of my documentary
Alternative openings:
Compilation of clips related to the topic plays, moving on on beat to a thudding type of
base in the background. After a few, the title ‘Culture of the Digital Age’ pops up on top
of the clips. Or the clips begin to zoom out, revealing the clips are inside of the title.
Voice over, maybe? If so, can be a short introduction. Will try with and without.
Using a POV like technique, only hands of a person will be in the frame, with a fast pace
the hands will grab a DVD, take the disc out, place it on a disc tray, then as the telly
loads the title ‘Culture of the Digital Age’. No voice over necessary. No music either, but
maybe sound affects to emphasise the speed of the action.
After the title in the opening sequence:
Longer clips will play out, as a voice over plays over the top of these clips giving a slight
explanation as to the documentary. These clips may include teenagers sat on their digital
devices, others going into the cinemas, some using VHS tapes/DVDs to watch a film, maybe
even a POV of what the TV sees (People watching the film), etc etc.
Introduces the first topic: ‘Advertising’
(Don’t think voice overs are necessary here but will have some backed up to try for the
introduction of chapters, but it's not a definite they will be of use when it comes to the final
cut. Either an image or a video will play out behind the title that links to the context, with a
small jingle playing.)
Introduces the second topic: ‘Online marketing’
Introduces the third topic: ‘Physical copies becoming less valued’
Introduces the fourth topic: ‘Lack of originality’
Introduces the fifth topic: ‘Pirating’
Introduces the sixth topic: ‘Spoilers’
Introduces the seventh topic: ‘Cinema experiences being ruined’
Introduces the eighth topic: ‘Production leaks’
Introduces the ninth topic: ‘Toxic fanbases’
End sequence:
Videos continue to play out as voice over talks on top of the footage. Depending on the opening
sequence, I may have the ending link. If I go with the first as discussed, the clips can turn into
2. the title again and it ends from there. Or if I go with the second, can show the title on the TV
screen again, then the disc is seen being removed and put away.
