3. Having to produce a documentary, the set project has to
do with digital technology, and showing how it has
impacted young minds. Hence, 'Culture of the Digital
Age'.
The client for this will be both the BBC, and the BBC
Three with both channels collaborating for this
campaign due to the BBC Three channel being the only
offspring to focus on younger generations, which works
better for the brief with it having a young target
audience.
About the project
4. As of the target audience, I will be working towards
attracting 16-24 year-olds, aiming to engage these
young people and to encourage them to think about
the impact technology is doing and how it affects us.
For research purposes, a survey had been put in place
allowing me to find and get to know my target
audience slightly better. That way, more accurate
information can be stitched together when it comes to
creating my documentary. Lucky for me, a total of
twenty-four had took part giving me a wide range of
results, helping me gather more accurate information.

6. Conventions:
Form conventions:
Continuity editing, to
prevent the audience
from being put.
Story conventions:
Narrative structures,
interviews, cause and
effect. POV is an
additional option.
Genre conventions: 'Voice
Of God' narration that
addresses the viewer,
illustrating truth.
Codes and Conventions
Technical codes I will use with my documentary:
Written codes:
Printed language: Text on
screen will be added.
Depending on the context,
either sans serif or just
sans fonts will be used,
sans serif most likely and
most often will be used.
Spoken language: This
goes for the dialogue
throughout the
documentary.
Technical codes:
Camerawork: Wanting to
create impact, thought
will go into the
positioning, movement,
framing, and the
exposure.
Editing: Graphic and
rhythmic may be included.
Audio: Dialogue, sound
effects and music will be
added.
Lighting: Depends on the
script really. For most f it
it will be quite light and
clear. But for parts that
need a darkened tone,
that will be done.
Symbolic codes:
Setting: Both realistic, and
created atmospheres may
be used. Interview-based
set ups are a definite.
Mise en scene: Set
designs and props will be
put together for the
purpose of filming.
Acting: Wanting to avoid
creating a docudrama,
only little bits of acting
might be used.
Colour: Will be made to fit
the scene.
7. Unique Selling Point
With most documentaries with
social media being the topic,
usually it's always to spread
awareness on what technology is
doing to our mental health as such.
Never really how our habits impact
the world around us.
Whereas with mine, I'm telling
people how our habits are effecting
industries as a whole. Film and TV
specifically though..
8. How is the outcome suitable
for the client?
I am sticking to the brief, sharing information on the
impact and effects technology is making. At the
same time as, giving them something new. (Like how
I mentioned in the last slide with this being
something no one really talks about).
9. How will it appeal to the
audience?
With doing a documentary talking of the age group that is also my target
audience, that in itself is a great start to attracting an audience. That
ofcourse, as long as all goes well and I get the right information across; those
watching will be able to relate in a way with the technology habits, from that
interest will spring with them finding out how badly it affects not only them,
but others around them. Industries even, people losing jobs over an app you
can use. Getting the facts out, those taking them in can do as they please
with it.
