upon a benchmark of elevation 132.135. Enter the readings in level book form and reduce the

short by 0.05 m. Determine the correct length of AB, the reduced horizontal length of AB, if AB
is on a slope of 1 in 25, and the reading required to produce a horizontal distance of 22.86 m
between two pegs, one being 0.56 m above the other? (10)

5.Reciprocal leveling was conducted across a wide river to determine the difference in level of
points A and B: A situated on one bank of the river and B situated on the other. The following
results on the staff held vertically at A and B from level stations 1 and 2 respectively, were
obtained. The level station 1 was near to A and station 2 was near to B.

b) An incline mine has to be equipped to produce 600 tonnes/day, the average gradient of the
seam is 1 in 20,the length of the haulage plane is 2000 meters. Given, rope friction is 1/20 and
tub friction is 1/50, tub capacity is 1 tonne and the tare is ½ of the coal it carries .Speed of rope is
4 km per hour. Net working time of the haulage is 6 hours per shift. Ultimate tensile strength of
rope is 160 kg/mm2

Part-A (25 Marks)
1. a)In a conveyor belt drive the tension on the tight side is double that on the slack side. If the
value of friction coefficient is 0.3, find the angle of lap required if the belt is not to slip on its
driving drum. (2)
b) Write about the principle of working of drum brake. (3)
c) What are the types of clips used in endless rope haulage? (2)
d) What are the merits, demerits of endless rope haulage? (3)
e) Explain the working principle of turn table. (2)
f) Write the application of aerial ropeway in India. (3)
g) Differentiate between diesel locomotive and electric locomotive. (2)
h) What is a bridge conveyor? Where it is used in underground coal mines? (3)
i) What are the basic types of drills used for coal and stones? (2)
j) Describe the principle of air leg. (3)
Part-B (50 Marks)
2. Write notes on:
a) Construction and working of fluid coupling
b) Hydraulic and pneumatic power

3. a) Describe the working principle of clutch.
b) A conveyor belt running at 500m/min transmits 5 kW. The angle of lap is 1600
and the
coefficient of friction between the belt and the pulley is 0.3. If the permissible pull in the belt is
16 Newton per mm width, calculate the tension on the driving side and the width of the belt
required.
4. Write notes on:
a) Direct rope haulage
b) Procedure for rope splicing
c) Lang’s lay and ordinary lay
OR
5. a) Explain about any two safety devices used on haulage roads.
b) An endless haulage operates on a roadway 800 m long dipping at 1 in 15 and draws 600
tonnes of coal in a shift ( 1 shift = 7.5 hours effective time). The loads weigh 1500 kgf each and
the empties 500 kgf. The rope weighs 3 kgf/m, tub friction is 1/50 and the rope friction is 1/10.
Speed of the rope is 4 km/hr. Estimate the power required at the surge wheel. The loads are
pulled up the gradient.
6. Write briefly about the haulage track in a mine with the essentials for a good haulage track.
What are the types of joints and crossing used for haulage tracks?
OR
7. Answer all:
a) Discuss the construction of aerial ropeway.
b) A locomotive weighing 15 tonnef travels round a curve of 80 m radius at a speed of 30 kmph.
If the gauge is 1 meter what should be the super elevation of the outer rail over the inner rail so
that there is no thrust between the flanges of the outer wheel and the outer rail?
8. Write notes on:
a) Trolley wire locomotive
b) Gate end stage loader
OR
9. a) What is tractive effort and drawbar pull ?
b) A locomotive weighs 15 tonnef and the adhesion to the tracks is 2246 N per tonnef is moving
up in an adverse gradient of 1 in 5.The running resistance of the locomotive is 67 N per tonnef.
Calculate the coefficient of adhesion and drawbar pull which the locomotive is capable of
exerting.
10. Write notes on:
a) jack hammer drill
b) coal drill

11. What is jumbo drill? Describe the construction and working principle of the jumbo drills
used in mines.

and 100 m long. And other, with similar lining is 2 m×1.5 m and 125 m long. Calculate the
