Introduction to Yoga and Meditation 101

Course Description
This course is focused on teaching the students an introduction of an ancient,
universal technique of meditation and yoga with other aspects of meditation,
such as how to sit comfortably for meditation and learn basic breathing
techniques along with learning the scientific effects on the brain and nervous
system. The students will also have a basic understanding of the reasons why
stress management is important and how a daily practice will aid in that.
Course Prerequisites
Able to do simple bending and stretching if participating in the yoga session in
lesson one but if preferred student can watch.
Course Objectives
1.What meditation and yoga is
2.How to get comfortable for a silent, sitting meditation
3.How to use the breath to calm the body and mind
4.Learn the scientific effects on the body when yoga and/or meditation is utilized
daily
5. The effectiveness of Meditation in Reducing Stress
6. Combining all ingredients from previous two classes together
Required Materials
Yoga mat, if not then one may be provided
Also bring a drink, water is preferred

Grading will be based upon a cumulative score of tests, quizzes, labs, and write-
ups
