Dear Selection Committee,
My name is Amber Drobny and I received a Bachelors Degree in education from
Concordia University Portland in 2011 and am certified as a highly qualified teacher in Idaho. In
June of 2014 I received my Masters in Literacy from Boise State University. My teaching license
currently reflects my status as a high qualified teacher with a K-12 Literacy Endorsement. I have
completed all state required classes including MTI and the Idaho Comprehensive Literacy
course. I have been teaching in the Nampa School District for the past two years.
As a result of being enrolled at Boise State I have become familiar with the issues current
Idaho educators are facing as well as many of the current trends in educational research. The
Boise State Literacy program has given me the opportunity to explore my passion for literature
on a new level. During this program I took several classes specifically connected to Early
Literacy and Language development, as well as classes geared toward connecting students with
literature in many meaningful ways.
For the past year I have been teaching in second grade at a Title One School in Nampa
Idaho and have loved every moment of it. One memorable project from this year was a pen pal
program I created. I used Elf on the Shelf as a management tool during the holiday season. As
part of that unit I had my students write letters to Santa applying to be elves. After we wrote,
edited and rewrote the full page letters, I took them to a local high school creative writing class.
This creative writing class responded to each and every letter. My students each received a
personalized letter from an “Elf” at the “North Pole” telling them how they could be “Elves right
here in Idaho”. From the moment I told my students about this project they were motivated and
excited to write. Their energy and motivation was contagious. It was such a wonderful activity
that my teammate immediately implemented it in her classroom as well!
I have experience creating and implementing intensive literacy intervention materials to
supplement the district provided curriculum during my Literacy and intervention blocks. As a
result of these interventions I have seen tremendous growth in both reading comprehension,
fluency, and enjoyment.
I value education and am passionate about Idaho’s classrooms and believe that the Boise
School District School plays a vital role in educating Idaho. My experiences in the classroom
combined with my passion for the education of Idaho solidify my desire to become a Teacher
Librarian in Boise School District. My enclosed resume summarizes my qualifications. I will be
available for an interview at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Amber Drobny
