The systematic study of
relationships between people and
tasks for the purpose of
redesigning the work process to
increase efficiency is known as
SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT. In
simple words it is just an
application of science to
management.
5. ORIGIN
AMAN SRIVASTAVA, EC-2(2015), SRMSCET,
BAREILLY5
Coined by FREDERICK W. TAYLOR (1856–
1915) and his colleagues in 1910
Founder of scientific Management
One of the first person to study the behavior
and performance of people at work
Became a consultant and taught other
managers how to apply his scientific
management techniques
Believed that by increasing specialization and
the division of labor, the production process
will be more efficient.

According to Frederick Winslow Taylor, “SCIENTIFIC
MANAGEMENT is the substitution of exact scientific
investigations and knowledge for the old individual judgment or
opinion in all matters relative to the work done in the shop.”
Taylor believed that all workers were motivated by money, so he
promoted the idea of "A FAIR DAY'S PAY FOR A FAIR DAY'S
WORK".
7. Principles of Scientific
Management

Replacing the old
“Rule of Thumb”
method by scientific
investigation of
man’s work

Maximum output in place of
respected output
(right worker for the right job)
Scientific selection, training &
development of workers
(checking up of the performance)
Harmony between the management
and the workers
(better cooperation for better future)
9. TECHNIQUES OF SCIENTIFIC
MANAGEMENT
AMAN SRIVASTAVA, EC-2(2015), SRMSCET,
BAREILLY9
Scientific task-setting(full use of
ability of worker)
Work study(best method for
performing the particular job)
Separation of planning from
doing(rules and regulations)
10. AMAN SRIVASTAVA, EC-2(2015), SRMSCET,
BAREILLY10
Standardisation(standard of working)
Selection and training(right worker for the right job)
Differential piece rate plan(different position, different salary)
