The word communication is derived
from Latin word “communicare” which
means to participate to inform or
impart. Communication refers to
various way of keeping humans in
touch with one another .
3. DEFINITION
Communication is the process of exchanging
information, thoughts,ideas and feelings from
one individual to others.
4. PURPOSES
•Exchanging information regarding health.
•Encouraging cooperation, coordination,
good personal relations and motivation
among health workers.
•Ensuring public participation in health
programmes.
5. •To understand and exchange ideas.
•Maintenance of health records and to receive correct
reports.
•Maintaining health education effective.
•To provide knowledge.
13. METHODS OF OVERCOMING
BARRIERS
• Always start the communication process
by checking for a hearing aid
• Amplify your voice
• See the face of clients to get attention
before speaking.
14. • Minimize visual and auditory distractions make
sure there is adequate lighting
• Don’t expect to communicate the same way as
you would with a non impaired person.
• Supplement your words with visual gestures.
• Match your body language to your speech .
15. • Summarize the most important points of the
conversation .
• Give clients plenty of time to ask and answer
questions.
• Stick to one topic at a time.
• Speak slowly and clearly while maintaining eye
contact use short sentences with simple words.
16. PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNICATION
• The communicator must perceive their clients health
problems from their point of view.
• The Message must be properly designed and organized.
• There must be effective communication of messages.
• There should be direct communication.
17. • The environment should be conductive to communication.
• The communicator must pay attention to his /her image while
presenting message.
• The message must be for 30-45 minutes not beyond the
attention span.
• Conclude presentation by High lighting key message.
18. CONCLUSION
Communication is the basic element of
human interaction. It is one of the most
vital components of all nursing practice. A
great deal of nursing practice involves
interpersonal communication skills and
the establishment of relationship essential
for successful functioning.
