TOPIC 2: Physical Properties of Fluid
a) Mass density, ρ
Mass density is a quantitative expression of the amount of mass contained per unit volume.
The standard unit is kilograms per meter cubed (kg/m3). The symbol most often used
for density is: (the Greek letter rho).
b) Specific Weight, ω
The specific weight is the weight per unit volume of a material. The symbol of specific weight is ω
(omega) or γ (gamma).

1. Weight of a fluid is 8 kN and its density 9000 cm3
. Calculate the following:
i. Mass of fluid
ii. Specific weight of fluid
iii. Specific gravity of fluid

. Given the mass and volume of fluid are 450g and

respectively. Then, determine the specific volume in m3

The standard unit is kilograms per meter cubed (kg/m3). The symbol most often used for density is: (the Greek letter rho). b) Specific Weight, ω The specific weight is the weight per unit volume of a material. The symbol of specific weight is ω (omega) or γ (gamma).
