Metamorphic Facies Series Explained

2. Metamorphic facies are a group of metamorphic rocks that are characterized
by a distinct group of minerals originating under special conditions of pressure
and temperature, and metamorphic facies are divided into three main series.
1. High temperature and low pressure facies, which are a group of rocks that
characterize tectonic zones such as the volcanic arc or in the case of the
Continental collision, and these rocks are characterized by a series of facies
starting from zeolite at low temperature at the beginning of the transformation
process through the Prehnite-Pumppellyite. Then the green schist, then the
amphibolite and ending with Granulite facies at the maximum temperature and in
the case of contact metamorphism clearly show hornfels facies that end with
sanidinite.

3. 2. High pressure and low temperature facies that characterize the tectonic
subduction & accretionaty wedge zones and their rocks are characterized by a
series of facies starting from the zeolite with the beginning of the
transformation at the lowest temperature and pressure through the Prehnite-
Pumppellyite then the Blueschist and ending with the eclogite facies at
maximum pressure.
3. Facies metamorphosis at a medium degree of temperature and pressure, and
this series is located in the middle of the two previous series, and that
characterizes the transformation of rocks naturally by burial, and this series
begins with zeolite as well as through the green schist and the amphibolite and
ends with Eclogite or the Granulite depending on the composition The
