2. Digipak Analysis
I am going to be analysing the digipak for The
Beatles 1969 album Abbey Road. The Beatles were a
rock band from Liverpool and gained international
fame and success throughout the 60s.
3.
4. Front Cover
The now iconic front cover of abbey road
shows the band crossing the zebra
crossing outside abbey road studios. All
the band are in step with each other
except for McCartney who is, unlike the
rest of his bandmates, not wearing
shoes. The group are all walking in a
single file which shows there is no
order and no one is more important than
anyone else in the group. Equality was a
big theme throughout music in the 60s
and was a message that the Beatles where
keen to promote in there music. The
simplicity of the album cover shows the
popularity of the band at the time as
they did not need anything flashy to
promote their music and could do the
photo for the album outside their
studio.
5. Back Cover
The back cover for the album shows a brick
wall outside the studio with the bands name
and the title of the album on it. There is
the track listings of the songs inside and on
the right hand side there is the bottom half
of a woman in a blue dress walking past the
sign. Like the Beatles on the cover of it she
is walking and is shown as a side profile
however as she is unknown it adds an air of
mystery to it. A similar colour theme as was
used on the front cover is shown with the
main colours being blue black and white. At
the bottom you can see the record label,
barcode and other elements you would
typically find on the back of a digipak.
6. Inside
Inside of the abbey road album is a fold out booklet that shows images from the photoshoot
that promoted the album. There is also information inside the booklet about the process of
making abbey road, the track listings on the album and about the different instruments
used.
7. CD
The Cd for abbey road very simple and shows a
big green apple in front of a black background.
The name of the album, along with the band name
and track listings can be seen on the apple
with copyright written in green along the edge
of the CD in green. The apple is symbolic of
the Beatles as it used to be the name of their
production company hence the apple on the back
of the album.
8. Fold out
The fold out for the digipak of
abbey road shows pictures of the
band from the photoshoot that was
done promoting the album. It shows
the band dressed in clothes
appropriate to the 60s and are
taken in outdoor locations like
the image used for the front cover
of the album is.
