Feminism has evolved and a new form is among us, it reflects the
modern future in a way it’s never been seen before, it is not
anymore about conflict and protest but unity and acceptance within
a genderless society. The trend is The E Word, a time when the label
feminism diminishes and the topic takes on the title of equality, open
to all genders.
Depletion of the F word
A number of things have come together to create this new trend, the
breakthrough of acceptance for transgender individuals, equality
for all sexual orientations and breakthroughs for other relevent
issues.For the first time ever solutions are being created for long
rooted issues, such as climate change which is finally being tackled,
ageism, racism and gender inequalities.
2016 is a time for change.
This trend is about a journey, it storms towards a peaceful cloud
however the overall outcome is not a total truce for it does not
forget its past, this is when certain details appear in the trend. The
journey begins in darkness represented by the hints of deep greys,
black shades and shadowed angles. The journey continues to an
image of bright pastels however because the journey to equality is
not by any means an easy ride the key colours are misty pastels. The
E word visually in terms of garments is oversized, not caring about
stereotypes of what a woman ‘should’ wear but always with a hint
of excitement represented by bare flesh.

refers to the current mood provoked by the
current trend which ultimately forecasts the
essence of the future. All opinions are being
channelled into one, for the first time radical
feminists, Marxists feminists, Difference
feminists, Religious Feminists, Eco Feminists and
simply all individuals with basic involvement in
the topic are able to find a common ground.
The mass population are slowly becoming for
gender equality This is a time to celebrate
but with a strong element of focus and
determination. The trend shows off its hard
exterior with an occasional glimpse at soft
core.

The E word has a hard exterior and a soft core, the hard exterior is not hidden throughout
the trend and the soft core is hidden but hinted.
There are a number of edits within
this womenswear trend, and thus a
variety of textures. A key texture
is a strong, scuba like material of
which has a feminine, soft appeal to
it however the strength of the
fabric is not to be mistaken. The key
shape is a square, this is sometimes
represented in a high and defined
shoulder line and in other ways such
as a very square sleeve opening. The
textures are characterised by smooth
surfaces juxtaposed with rigid edges
and powerful daggered lines. A key
texture that represents the trend is
the art of stacking translated into
the chosen sector in ways such as
layering. The colour palette is muted
pastel and has a misty floaty feel to
it, with similar misty ones colliding
with firmer pop colours and metallic
features.

Sunset colours and the use of fading light is a key detail within this
colour palette. This is illustrated not only in the natural effects of the sun
but also manipulation of light from reflective surfaces. The trend
combines natural and synthetic light. This is where the black shadow is
found that caresses the trend representing how the trend does not forget
its past. The trend has been broken up into three key colour palettes, the
one to the left is an over-all colour story, followed by the peach’s, the
pinks and the blues.

After analysing the trend and
ascertaining the colour palette the trend
forecaster deemed it valid to research
into what colours Pantone have
allocated as the colours of the year for
2016 to see if there had been any
similarities, this would gauge how success-
ful and accurate the trend is forecasted
for 2016. The shades Pantone allocated
include ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY
(PANTONE 13-1520 & PANTONE 15-
3919). These colours come from the exact
family from that of this colour palette,
the pantone blue is slightly deeper than
that of this trend however the similarities
are undeniable. Pantone describe it as

colour for 2016:
For the first time,
the blending of
two shades”
This was the result that was far more
significant than the simple fact that the
colour palettes were very related, the
key message behind combining two
colours for the first time has a far more
relevant message to the trend, it
resembles the year of two genders at
peace. This does not mean that 2016 will
be the year of absolute gender equality
but the start of a new form of feminism.

There is a certain theme of street styling bubbling up and it more
than coordinates with the colours, shapes and look of the cross sector
analysis. One key aspect of the street style is angular details, this is
translated in many ways, in form of the oversized sweep style coat
worn by Eva Chen (Editor and chef of lucky magazine) not only is the
collar very sharp and linear but the detail at the hip and
oversized sleeves. In other ways the platform shoes seen on the street
give the base of the shoe a more defined straight line. Furthermore
key colours include misty pastles constrasted with deep shadows and
richer peaches.

Boxy structures are a key feature within the silhouette of this trend. This could be
described as androgenous but this trend is about taking a step out of that
label and escaping a radical feminist approach and stepping into a more
feminine silhouette with a hard edge. This is transpired through the key colour
palette colours. The components to this look is relaxed with a feminine
mysterious edge following the hard exterior and soft core theme. This is achieved by big
oversized features but always showing a hint of flesh. However the trend can also be
communicated in other ways for example the jacket on the end doesn’t show any flesh in a
sexy way but the jacket gives the body a look as if the model is wearing nothing
underneath which achieves the same message.

The key shape for tops in this trend is a boxy square structure with additional
variations. The boxy structure is imitating the shape of the male shoulder line. In
all tops there is some feature of box, for example the pale blue and peach
garment is very clealy within this shape whereas the one simply pale peach has a
female silhouette but keeps in with the trend in the sleeve shape.

The sleeaight edit combines all aspects of a sleek and straight
structure, in some formats this translates as clinging to the figure
but in others the skirt is magnatised towards the core of the earth,
for this reason it makes little movement. The fabrics must either be
constructed by tight interlocking yarns, or a material with no room
to tease like scuba for example. This represents a clear goal, the
garment is drawn towards the ground and isnt distracted by anything
upon the mission of reaching total equality. This edit is about the
focus and strongside of the trend juxtaposed to Flairot which isn’t
about doing the hard work but encouraging Sleeaight to keep going.

Straight Leg
The first range of trousers is the winded straight leg,
essentially this shape is a simple straight leg design
however with extra room. The material is a scuba like
strong fabric to give an impress that wind is blowing
the trousers out from the leg. Similarily to the Sleeaight
edit, this edit is the same in terms of what it represents,
which is clear focus on the end goal.

Strong winded XXL represents the same message as Flairot, it is a more
relaxed look. The leg has lots of space and is free to do
whatever it pleases, much like females will be able to do when the end
goal is achieved.

The straight winded leg trouser is styled with a variety of shoe styles but
all from a similar family. This ranges between high lace up boots, flat lace
ups, bandaged ballet shoes and other sturdy flats like brogues. This really
complements the E words message because the flat shoes represent focus, the
trend does not want to be held back by uncomforting footwear which is why
heels are rarely seen.

The shoe styling in co-ordination with skirts is very similar to that
of with trousers in that it is a flat shoe however the shoes are
less bulky, and mostly pointed to complement the leg this avoids
cutting it off harshly at the ankle. The only exception of bulky
footwear with the skirt is the white trainer, it gives a cool and
youthful look.

100% Polyester, it is not only the
aesthetic and versatility factor of
the man-made fibre that makes it
a key element of the E word but
the actual properties and thus
meaning behind it. Polyester fibres
are particularly resistant to light
and weather and can withstand
dramatic climatic effects, this is a
quality the trend focus’ on, having
a clear aim (gender equality) and
storming on through obstacles
until the goal is achieved. This
fibre is used in a number of
garments throughout the trend but
the colour this swatch represents is
one of the key details in the trend,
the deep bloody pink is used as a
highlight colour every so often.
