2. Early Life and Education
Bob was born in Dallas, Texas. Bob became an all American football player for Woodrow
Wilson High School from where he would graduate in 1963. Goodrich was inspired by his
father who was a Methodist minister and bishop but also the producer on the live weekly Tv
show The Pastor Calls.
College
Goodrich was offered 50-60 scholarships from schools all across America, Goodrich decided
to play football in his hometown for the renewed Southern Methodist University in Dallas,
Texas. Goodrich here received his bachelor's degree in psychology as well as playing tight end
for the SMU team that won the 1966 Southwest Conference Championship and he later
played in the 1967 Cotton Bowl Classic.
3. Career
In 1970 Goodrich began his career at ABC Sports. At the beginning this was part time and
worked on many different sports telecasts. In addition to this Goodrich was able to learn from
the legacy of the great Ronnie Arledge. By 1971 he had joined ABC as a full time production
assistant. In 1973 he became associate producer before becoming full producer 3 years later
in 1976.
From 1980-1986 Goodrich was the producer on ABC's NFL's Monday Night Football. The
program quickly rose to the top of the ratings and ended by having a film made to explain to
rise to the top. During all this the program had become an American television institution.
On December 8th 1980, Goodrich was producing Monday Night
Football and had to relay the information of John Lennon's death to
commentator Howard Cosell who memorably told the live Tv audience
watching show about Lennon's death
4. Career Highlights
In January 1985 Goodrich was the producer on ABC's first ever courage of the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XIX in Stanford between the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins which the
49ers won.
Goodrich would also produce the pre game and half shows in 1991 at the Super Bowl in
Tampa, Florida.
He spearheaded ABC's Sports courage of college football for 22 years and an extra
12 years as coordinating producer. In addition he produced ABC's courage of the
Indy 500 for 16 straight years. In 1998 he also produced courage of the FIFA World
Cup held in France.
He would also produce courage of 2 Summer Olympics in 1976
and 1984 and 4 Winter Olympics (1976, 1980, 1984 and 1988)
5. Awards and Recognition
In 2014 Goodrich was on the list of the top 500 Dallasites dead or alive. In
1970 working as a graphics designer himself and Jerry Kapstein would
invent the graphics for time of possession and third down conversions
which would then be used for the next 40 years.
Goodrich has received 16 Sports Emmy Awards, most recently as a producer for the 1990 Indy
500 coverage, which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Sports Special. In addition to
the 16 Emmy's he has won he as been nominated for another 29.
He has also been recognised for his accomplishments during his high school football
career at Woodrow Wilson High School
6. Sportscast stars training
In 2008 Goodrich and his wife Annie decided to found the sportscast stars training. A
company which provides media training and coaching to professional athletes who want to get
into broadcasting but also athletes who need help dealing with media. They would also work
with broadcasters, producers, and executives who want help improving their position in the
broadcasting industry. They have provided media training and coaching to corporate and non-
profit executives as well as coaches and athletic administrators
