  6. 6. Summary <ul><li>Bryant Gumbel was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He started out as a sportscaster for KNBC-TV. In 1975 he became a co-host of a pre-game show called Grandstand with Jack Buck. Gumbel began on The Today Show as a chief sports reporter. His adaptable and spirited performance helped him in becoming a top contender for The Today Show’s anchor position. He became anchor of the Today Show , January 4, 1982. He was anchor for 15 years, and left January 1997. After the Today show , Gumbel moved to CBS and became a co-host on The Early Show. He left that same year. Currently, he is a host on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. For this show he has earned, 15 sport Emmys and also a Alfred I. DuPont Columbia University Award, for broadcast journalism. This is the first time the award was given to a sports program. </li></ul>
