1. Fire Safety Engineering Focus
Workshop Series 2019
Fire, Soot, Dispersion and JetFan
simulation using OpenSource CFD
Software
Objectives:
• to provide participants with an overview of the use of
OpenSOurce CFD technology in the context of fire safety
engineering, mechanical engineering problems as well as
building environment
• to train participants with CFD modelling techniques and
relevant software skills for more challenging problem settings
• to understand and model fire and smoke, dispersion
problems, as well as porous media problems
The participants will obtain the knowledge and the
experience needed to start their own advanced CFD
Projects with OpenFOAM and postprocessing of OpenFOAM
cases.
Certificates of participation will be issued to all participants.

Dr Alex Lee is currently the Managing Director of Tian Building Engineering SG and
the co-founder and co-developer of BIM HVACTool (Sustainable Building Performance
Analysis Tool). He holds a doctorate in Computational Fluid Dynamics and has been a
lead trainer, researcher and invited speaker for several sustainability related courses and
event.
Dr József Nagy specialises in CFD modeling in a wide variety of fields (e.g. multiphase
modeling, complex materials, chemical reactions, conjugate heat transfer, etc.) in the
open-source CFD tool OpenFOAM. He has over nine years of experience in teaching
and training with OpenFOAM. He is co-chair and initiator of the Editorial Board of the
OpenFOAM tutorial collection at wiki.openfoam.com/Tutorials. He has been offering tutorial
videos online for educational purposes for years.
