1. SNU Chennai Shines at the CXO-Innofest 2023 Hackathon
In a remarkable feat of innovation and technical prowess, three talented students from B.Tech CSE (IoT),
2nd year at SNU Chennai, emerged victorious at the CXO-Innofest 2023 Hackathon, organized by
Cywayz. Jitheesh V J, Shruti Thiagu, and V Harsha Vardhana Anand, collectively known as Team
"Embedded Wizards," took on the challenge of revolutionizing the IoT domain.
The hackathon, which promotes digital transformation in education, took place for nearly a month from
August 17 to September 12 and presented 11 intriguing problem statements. Opting for an open-ended
challenge in the IoT sphere, the team conceptualized and executed the project, "IoT Fog Security and
Auto Remediation," with exceptional finesse. This project not only bagged the top position in its
category but also secured a substantial cash prize of ₹25,000.
At the core of their project was the implementation of cutting-edge security measures in an IoT fog
computing environment. Their mission? To ensure automatic remediation of potentially malicious IoT
nodes while upholding data security through blockchain-based cryptographic protocols.
Key innovations of the project include a foolproof mechanism for safeguarding data and IoT nodes
within a fog-computing Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). They achieved this by employing a trust model
2. that autonomously identifies and rectifies malicious nodes. Furthermore, the team introduced a
groundbreaking blockchain-based key distribution mechanism to fortify data security.
During the hackathon, the team simulated an IoT wireless sensor network using the Contiki-NG Cooja
Simulator. Network packets were captured and directed towards REST APIs on a web server, emulating a
cloud domain. The web server also hosted a dynamic dashboard displaying real-time network status. In
addition, they developed and showcased cryptographic protocols tailored for seamless integration
within the wireless sensor network.
The team extends their heartfelt gratitude to their mentors, Ms. Dhivya S. and Dr. S. Vidhusha, for their
unwavering guidance. The support of the mentor proved instrumental in surmounting challenges
encountered during the development process.
With their groundbreaking project, Team "Embedded Wizards" not only bagged laurels at CXO-Innofest
2023 but also demonstrated the exceptional talent and ingenuity that thrive within the SNU Chennai
community. Their achievement stands as a testament to the university's commitment to fostering
innovation and excellence in technology.
The triumph of SNU Chennai students at the CXO-Innofest 2023 Hackathon underscores the impact of
modern education in India, catalyzed by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Through its visionary approach, the
Foundation has revolutionized learning, empowering students to excel on global platforms. The
foundation's emphasis on cutting-edge technologies and innovative pedagogies has nurtured a
generation of tech-savvy scholars, enabling them to spearhead groundbreaking projects like IoT Fog
Security. This milestone is a testament to the Foundation's unwavering dedication to shaping the future
of education in India.
