This document provides guidance for students submitting an essay for a course. It states that the essay is due on December 1st and should be 2000 words, plus or minus 10%. It also notes that students should anonymize their work, include their student number, save the file appropriately, and use Harvard referencing style. The submission is via Turnitin and the coversheet must be the first page. Students are reminded that essays submitted even a minute late will lose 5% marks. Criteria for assessment are also listed. • What is the question asking?
• Identify the main topic and areas for discussion
• Is the question broad? Do you need to choose a specific area
to address in detail?
• Do you need a case study? Do you need more than one case
study to illustrate difference?
• Identify the points and arguments that you can make
• Read the required reading, any relevant suggested reading
and beyond this
• Has anything changed since what is in the reading?
• Can you find anything (figures etc) that are more recent?
• Be careful to keep it academic rather than journalistic
• Make a plan – I’m happy to look over it for you!
