The document discusses whether environmental parameter measurements are mandatory under the ISO 14001:2004 standard. While the standard does not explicitly require measurements, it can be interpreted that initial measurements should be taken to understand environmental aspects and impacts. Additionally, parameters should be continuously monitored to ensure they remain within acceptable limits over time, though the standard does not specify time intervals for repeating measurements. Guidance in an annex to the standard lists various environmental aspects that could be measured, including emissions, wastes, and other physical attributes.

1. Q. according to the International ISO standard 14001:2004 , is it mandatory to ask for environmental
parameter measurement in the work place ? does these measurements should be repeated after a while
or in intervals?
Ans. As per say of asking directly of environmental parameters measurements , It was not mentioned in
the whole standard , however, in clause # 4.3.1 concerning the determination of the environmental
aspects of the organization’s activities, especially if it may have an impact on the environment, this can
be interpreted by determining all the working environment in the beginning, in order to know the exact
situation of the organization working circumstances , which will leads to denote if it is acceptable, may
have any negative prospective, or not, then, ensure with time that the pre-determined parameter are
still within acceptable limits , and under control,,,,this can be only done by continuous monitoring of
these parameters , however, this standard as a TC, has no claw of the time intervals of repeating these
measures, which normally indicated and determined by the local regulatory and statutory parties.
Which is in Egypt e.g. is the environment law 14/1994.
In annex A of the same standard which is a guidance specification, clause # a.3.1, it gives a guidance
identification of environmental aspects such as emissions to air, or water , release to land, used raw
materials, or energy , emitted heats, radiations, vibrations , or production of waste or by-products, and
any other physical attribute, e.g. size, shape, color, or appearance, which simply concern all of the above
mentioned parameters to be measured.
