My firstattemptat creatingmyfront
coverstartedwiththis.I firstlystarted
creatinga logo;the logo nevertookthat
longto create as I had alreadypre-
plannedwhatIwantedmylogo to look
like.The textusedwas‘BebasNeue’and
the page isInternational Paper.Ichose
BebasNeue fontasit lookedthe most
applicable tomygenre of HipHop, it
connotedstrong,hardand powerful
whichiscommonlyassociatedtoHip
Hop. Above and below the masthead,I
usedthe lines‘#1 HIPHOP MAGAZINE’
and ‘ISSUE:01’. I chose to leave it
underneaththe masthead,asInever
exactlyknew where thesewouldgoinmy
final productsoI made the decisionto
leave itthere basedonothermagazines,
such as ‘The Source’magazine where
sometimesitslocatednearthe magazine.
I chose blackwritingas I believe it’sa
mustin anymagazine. Firstof all,black
textconnotesstrong,powerful andthis
linkstoHip Hop Artistsuchas theirlook
whichimplieshard.The Greencolouris
usedas it’snot an overusedcolour,itis
iconic.You don’tsee everymagazine with
a brightgreencolourand I can use this
colourto representmybrand.For
example whenyousee RedandWhite
there isonlyone teamyou think of, The
Arsenal.

The time after,I addedseveral
featurestomy frontcover.I added
several namesof Artiststomyfront
cover;I had a headline andaheadline
act. These were the majorchanges,
althoughif youlookto the bottom,
there isa website linkandabarcode.
The coverlinesare heavilyhighlighted
inblack sothey’re notmissed,and
eyecatching.Iusedagrey puff soit
standsout fromthe other colours,so
theydo notblendin.Bydoingthis,it
allowseachfeature tobe eye
catching.The headlineisshortand
snappy;thiswill wantpeople toread
more as theywant to know hisPOV.I
useda differentfontonthe ‘SANKAA’
so itstands outfrom the use of BEBAS
Neue.A differentfontisused,soit
standsout so the readerwill instantly
recognise the name.
The two changessince the lastedit
where,takingoutthe greypuff and
puttingina front image intothe
frontcover.At thisperiodthe Puff
didn’tworkwell withthe image soI
had to take it outof the frontcover.
The image is Sankaa,whoisholdinga
gun to hishead.Thiswasdone to
representHipHopas it isa quite
violentgenre.Ididn’twantSankaa
overlappingthe mastheadsince it’s
the firstissue andhe’snot as
important.

The most evidentchange isthe front
image,where Ihadhad to change the
picture.Iusedthe magic wandto take
the backgroundoff,since the background
was irrelevantomygenre.The shotis
more frontal,andthisis a common
theme inmagazineswhere theyuse a
close upof the person.I changedthe
colourof the website,atthe bottom
otherwise itwouldhave blendedintoo
much causingitto be irrelevant.The Puff
had to go back in,as there wasan empty
space that neededclearingup.
The puff locationwasmoved,asI never
wanteditto overlaporunderlapthe front
image as itwill cause toomuch of a
disturbance.Imoveditto the left,asitseasy
to see,andit getsthe purpose of the Puff to
tell somethingeasily.
I addeda ‘+’ to tell the audience whatmore
youcan readin the magazine.Just impliesto
us,what otherfeaturesinthe magazine there
are
Most importantlythe frontimage changed,I
retrieved manyideasfromfellowbrandsand
the entire close upswere intimate with
somethinggoingon.SoI tooka newphoto
withmore meaningandintimacy.Iusedthe
magic wandand the magneticlassotoerase
the sides.The erasedsideswouldhave implied
somethingelse,causingthe connotationstobe
veryoff.
I useda lightgreybackground,toadd more
substance tothe magazine.Iusedthe
rectangle tool anddrew aroundthe template.
The grey isa tertiarycolourinmy magazine,
and isusuallyusedinall 3 pages
Since the lasteditI changeda lotof my frontcover.
Althoughalot changedsome of the foundationsare still in
place,suchthe mastheadsandthe coverheadline above
the artist.First of all,I changedthe colourof the headline
‘Sankaa’fromblack to white as itcreateda more
aestheticallycomplexion;aswell the coverline underthe
headline changed‘hiphopseye-nstein’.The coverline has
more relationtothe double page spread.
I addeda skyline,somymagazine coverhasmore text
aboutdifferent stuff ratherthanaboutsanakaa.
