Teachers

Group G
Introduction
 ‘Conduct’ - Direct , guide, lead or behave in a certain
manner.
 ‘Code’- A set of rules , principles or rules.
 Code of Conduct - Most common policy within an
organization or institution.
 Lays out the organisation’s principles, standards, the moral
and ethical expectations which the employers are held to
as they interact with the organisation.
 Likewise Code of Conduct for teachers - a statement of
principles, rules and values that establish a set of
expectations and standards for how individuals in a school
will behave in an ethical way including disciplinary
actions.
 Should always be contextualised to the local situation.
Objectives
 Knowingly a teacher should not neglect his or her duties.
 A teacher should never discriminate against any students ( on the
ground of caste , creed , language, the place of origin, social and cultural
background).
 A teacher is forbidden to indulge in or encourage any form of
malpractice.
 A teacher is ought to check the homework or classwork of students
regularly and do correction if requires.
 COC for teachers restrict the teachers to go against the smooth
functioning of classes and its discipline.
 A teacher must attend the class in time. Excusing himself or herself from
classes is a crime.
Meaning of COC for Teachers
 Serves as a guiding principle (about ethical and professional conduct teachers affiliated
within the institute).
 Understand limitations of teachers which are beyond control.
 Emphasises dissemination of duties as per the code of conduct.
General Code of Conduct
 The employee shall be at the disposal of the institution for full time and shall serve in such
capacity and place as he may from time to time, be so directed.
 The employee shall extend utmost curiosity and attention with whomever he interacts in the
sphere of his duties.
 The employee shall not apply for any other occupation without the previous knowledge of
the competent authority.
 Without the sanction of competent authority, the employee shall not ask for or accept
contribution for his own benefit.
Professional Conduct and Duties
 Teacher shall exercise integrity, fairness, openness through their
professional commitment, responsibilities and actions.
 Teacher shall undertake teaching assignment as per decision taken
in departmental meeting.
 Teacher shall monitor the performance and attendance of a
respective group of students assigned to them along with other
academic activities.
 Teacher must report in time to duty as per the working hours
prescribed and should be available in the campus.
 Teacher shall do supervision of college exams as per requirements.
He or she shall undertake different assessments as per alloted by
HOD or principal.
COC with Respect to Leave
 Prior written permission is required from the principal while availing
casual leave or duty leave.
 Medical leave will be governed by UGC and uni rules, regulations and
notifications may be availed in accordance with it.
 Teachers are entitled for fifteen days duty leave in an academic year
for academic activities.
 Study leave for higher studies will be granted at the discretion of the
management in accordance with the guidelines of UGC.
COC with Respect to Research
 Writing subject referece books.
 Publishing the original research findings in
respected journals.
 Presenting their papers in
conferences/symposium/seminars.
 Attending faculty development programmes to
enhance knowledge as per their subjects and
convenience.
Norms Governing the COC for Teachers
 No participation in private coaching class directly or indirectly.
 Performance of academic duties/works related to exams as assigned by the
authority.
 No misuse of the facilities provided.
 No partiality in assessment of a student.
 No refusal of carrying out the academic/ administration decision taken by
the authority.
Importance of COC for Teachers
 Protect the rights of the students.
 Make teachers understand that while getting a teaching position they are
agreeing to follow the the code of ethics.
 Protect students’ safety without the believe that this is someone else’s
job.
 No teacher shall get involved in any manner that violates the norms of
morality in his conduct inside or outside of the school/college campus.
Conclusion
 A well written Code of Conduct
reawaken the sense of self
esteem, dignity, honour, selfless
services and moral rectitude in
the teacher.
 It protects the teacher’s age long
position of nobility and leadership
in the social, moral and
intellectual world.
