2. It consists of 9 upazilas, 27 wards,
67 union parishad and 975 villages.
Upazila : cox’s bazar sadar, chakaria, maheshkhali, kutubdia,
ramu, teknaf, pekua, ukhiya, and eidgaon.
Population: Rural population was 1,790,979 (78.21%) while
the urban population was 499,011 (21.79%). Cox's Bazar
district had a literacy rate of 39.29% for the population 7
years and above: 40.32% for males and 38.22% for females.
3. History
In 1799 the east india company
Appointed captain hiram cox to
rehabilitate the Arakanese refugees. On
arrival there, he defeated the Burmese
king in battle and rehabilitad the
refugees. After the war he set up a
market in it place which was called
cox’s bazar after him.
4. Laboni beach
Laboni beach is the main beach of
cox’s bazar. It is the closest sea beach
to the town
Inani beach
Inani beach is located 35 km south of
cox’s bazar main town. it is famous for
its golden sand and clean water
5. Himchari
Himchari is a located about 18 km
south to the cox’s bazar main town.
It is famous for its water fall.
st. martin’s island
The only coral island in Bangladesh.
It is famous tourist spot.
