individuals who want to develop general English language and
literacy skills and knowledge to participate effectively in the
Australian community.
Pathway Options
Pathways into the qualification
There are no specific vocational pathways into the qualification as
the Certificates in EAL are all ‘bridging’ courses designed to
provide individuals with language skills for a variety of work or
study pathways.
Pathways from the qualification
After achieving 22250VIC Certificate I in EAL (Access), students
may undertake:
●	 22251VIC Certificate II EAL (Access)
●● Certificate II industry qualifications

Students will be assessed through Interviews, Presentations,
Projects, Written Assessments, Activities and Observations.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is a term used to identify a process of gaining
recognition gained through a previous course or a unit of study. To
be eligible for credit transfer the unit code of the unit already held
needs to be exactly the same as the unit for which credit is being
requested. A certified copy of an Academic Transcript would need
to be supplied by the student.

Preferred pathways for individuals considering this qualification

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning provides students with an
opportunity to have their current skills and knowledge
recognised.These skills and knowledge may relate to units
they are intending to study and as a result may exempt them
from studying these units. However there is a cost related
to RPL.The process requires students to gather evidence
confirming their skills and knowledge and submitting to an
assessor for assessment. For further information see the
RPL brochure or visit www.scei.edu.au
If a student is granted RPL or credit transfer, it may impact
on student visa conditions through a shortening of the
student’s course.
Entry Requirements
Individuals would need to fulfil the following requirements:
●	 aged 18 or over
and
●	 minimum IELTS score 5.5 (students from student 		
	 visa assessment level 1 & 2 countries, according to 	
	 immigration classification, without the required IELTS 	
	 scores can undertake SCEI’s English proficiency test.)
and
●	 completion of year 11 or equivalent
or
●	 mature aged entry. The definition of a mature aged 	
	 for SCEI’s purposes is a person over 23 years of 		
	 age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level

This qualification reflects the role of individuals with substantial
experience in a range of settings who are seeking to further
develop their skills across a wide range of business functions.
This qualification is also suited to the needs of individuals with little
or no vocational experience, but who possess sound theoretical
business skills and knowledge that they would like to develop in
order to create further educational and employment opportunities.

undertake a range of Advance Diploma level qualifications within

Category A Health Care Worker. These workers are
defined as being at risk of exposure to contaminated blood

Additional Requirements
Immunisation
Immunisation is the responsibility of the student. It is recommended that an informed, individual choice is made about this
matter. Students should refer to a doctor of their choice for discussion and advice.
Students will come into contact with a large variety of individuals while attending professional practice. Some of these people
may have a communicable disease. Pathology collection workers are categorised as a Category A Health Care Worker.
These workers are defined as being at risk of exposure to contaminated blood and body fluids (DoH, 2010).
Immunisation is one of the most effective public health measures for the control of communicable diseases, protecting both
the individual and the community as a whole. For the protection of students and of potential clients, evidence of vaccination
status is required from a doctor.

of Health website at: http://www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation
*Elective units have been selected by SCEI in consultation with industry experts and are a reduced list from the qualification
packaging rules specified electives list.

This qualification covers workers in a range of work roles who
provide assistance to health professional staff with the care of
clients. Health Services Assistance involves the worker in direct
client contact under supervision.

After achieving HLT32512 Certificate III in Health Services
Assistance, learners may undertake:

Teaching Methods/Mode of Study
Classroom and self-directed learning, practical application in a
simulated work environment, as well as work placement.
Assessment
Students will be assessed through Written Assessment, Simulated
Demonstration, Case Study, Portfolio, Work placement, Project
and Activities throughout the course.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is a term used to identify a process of gaining
recognition gained through a previous course or a unit of study.
To be eligible for credit transfer the unit code of the unit already
held needs to be exactly the same as the unit for which credit is
being requested. A copy of an Academic Transcript would need to
be certified by the students.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning provides students with an opportunity
to have their current skills and knowledge recognised.These skills
and knowledge may relate to units they are intending to study and
as a result may exempt them from studying these units. However
there is a cost related to RPL. The process requires students
to gather evidence confirming their skills and knowledge and
submitting to an assessor for assessment. For further information

HLT32512 Certificate III in
Health Services Assistance
Entry requirements
Individuals would need to fulfil the following requirements:
●	 Aged 18 years or above
●	 Successful completion of Year 10 or the equivalent level 	
	 of study
●	 Successful completion of SCEI’s Language Literacy and 	
	 Numeracy (LLN) Indicator
●	 Mature aged who have diverse academic, work and life 	
	 experiences are encouraged to enrol. The definition 	
	 of a mature aged student for SCEI’s purposes 		
	 is a person over 23 years of age that hasn’t 		
	 been studying 	at either year 12 level or university/		
	 TAFE level for at least 7 years and are an Australian or 	
	 New Zealand citizen (or Australian permanent resident 	
	 or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa).
Language and Literacy Support
A Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator is
administered to individuals to assess if they need additional
support during their studies and are able to cope with
requirements of the course. Individuals that are identified
as “at risk” and needing additional support will be offered a
variety of options for either before or during the course of
study on a group or one to one basis with the approval of
the Academic Manager. If individuals applying to enrol in
health or community services courses achieve below the
required LLN level for the course, they are advised to enrol
in English for Community Services or English for Health
initially to improve language and literacy skills within the
context of either community services or the health industry.
On completion, the individual can then progress into a main
stream course of their choice.

Pathway Options Pathways into the qualification There are no specific vocational pathways into the qualification as the Certificates in EAL are all ‘bridging’ courses designed to provide individuals with language skills for a variety of work or study pathways. Credit Transfer Credit transfer is a term used to identify a process of gaining recognition gained through a previous course or a unit of study. To be eligible for credit transfer the unit code of the unit already held needs to be exactly the same as the unit for which credit is being requested.
