Realisation of oneself, therefore, is the key to a successful and fulfilling career and indeed, life. The Professional Skills Development (PSD) programme is best summed up by this statement. PSD is designed to be an integral part of all Ntec Diploma courses. The learning outcomes of the programme are to provide students with an understanding of the New Zealand way of life, develop a greater awareness of self and hence gain confidence, job search and employability skills. The programme is designed to engage all learning senses. It is taught using activities like games, role play, as well as using videos. PSD has its own dedicated Facebook page: NTEC Professional Skills Development Programme. Following are some comments extracted from student feedback: “Above excellent (course rating) is the honest feedback, not trying to make anyone happy. It was the best learning experience I ever had. Well done with the design and implementation of this programme.” “This is a very good (programme) to teach students because in this way we can’t feel homesick and people from different countries can understand by ‘eyes, ears and heart’. I can say that‘PSD is a great class for international students’.” “The programme is very good. All the things we learnt in this course are very valuable. It is very helpful to improve our personality and communication skills. The method which they used to teach is excellent. I always recommend to other students to join this course if they want to improve their personality.” Ntec believes that the education of our students goes beyond the technical knowledge and skills of their Diploma courses. Our students need to be better learners and after graduating, to be work-ready employees. The PSD programme provides for this and it is our way of showing our students that we believe in giving them a holistic learning experience.
