2014 Graduation Ceremony
25 February 2014 Tuesday 2:00PM
83 Symonds Street
Auckland CBD
Graduation is a very special occasion to commemorate the hard work of our students, the support of their family
and friends, and the AWI faculty and administration staff. It is celebrated in style at The Langham Hotel
Ballroom where all attendees thoroughly enjoyed the event.
The Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand, Virginia H. Benavidez, was our main Graduation speaker and the
AWI Local Advisory Member Brian Fawdray gave the inspirational address. Representatives from Southern
Cross Insurance and the ANZ bank were also present.

These photos record the memorable moment when proud AWI graduates received their Diplomas.
Especially elated to receive their diplomas, were our top performing students, shown below.
AWI particularly appreciated all the help given by members of AWI Student Council to ensure the success of
this important event; plus a special thanks to Ashley Maximo and Jess Dean Paclar for their moving, sincere
and humorous speeches!

Student Visa Rules and Regulations Seminar
On 6 March 2014, Ms. Sammie Jo Smaling
from Immigration New Zealand - Student
Online Services, presented a seminar
regarding student visas. Attendance was
compulsory, making it clear to AWI students
the importance of this information. After the
presentation, there was plenty of time for the
students to ask individual questions about
their visas. A big thanks to Ms. Sammie, for
patiently answering all the questions and
easing student doubts. We all appreciated her
help!
Our students had also become aware of employment
regulations while in New Zealand on a student visa
through the informative website
http://nzstudywork.immigration.govt.nz/.
We always ensure that every AWI student is fully
aware of their rights when they study with us in New
Zealand.

Trips & Extra activities
2014 Trip One: Goat Island Marine Reserve
Autumn is here but
Auckland’s climate is still
warm and very pleasant. The
students chose to have their
first trip of 2014 to Goat
Island, a wonderful
destination to experience the
natural beauty of New
Zealand. It is just up the coast,
an hour from Auckland city
centre and is New Zealand’s
first and most accessible
marine reserve. What an
amazing spot for snorkeling and diving with its sheltered, crystal clear waters!
Some of our students enjoyed kayaking; while others
went snorkeling or viewed beautiful fish from the
Glass Bottom Boat.
After all these water activities, groups of students
played beach volleyball and enjoyed the sun.

It was a
beautiful
and fun
filled day!
The most
important
thing of all
was that all
students
arrived back
to the AWI
campus
safely,
feeling happy
and refreshed.
